Can anyone tell me the value of a 1970's era Ruger .44 magnum carbine rifle?
It is excellent shape w/no rust, or other damage.

Which model???

All the pics I have found that look like it say it is a Model 44, but it's not a Deerfield which
is a newer model. This one is from the late 60's to early 70's.

If it says "deerstacker" on the barrel, you can double the value.

If it has aperture sights you can $100.

if its 1970`s its not a Deerstacker. they changed the name early, because of another manufactuer was already using the Deerstacker name on their shotgun.

here is a chart for serial numbers from Ruger

.44 Carbine Rifle
(Manufactured from 1961 to 1974)
Caliber: .44 Magnum

Beginning Serial Number: Years of Production:
1 :1961
1339 :1962
65061: 1963
85111 :1964
94131 :1965
104345 :1966
113049 :1967
126443 :1968
133089 :1969
100-08901 :1970
100-20629 :1971
100-31220 :1972
100-41326 :1973
100-50238 :1974

The above chart shows the approximate first serial number shipped for the indicated year. This number should be used as a point of reference only. It is not necessarily the very first serial number shipped, but it can be used to determine the approximate year your Ruger firearm was shipped.

Ruger does not produce firearms in serial number order. There are occasions when blocks of serial numbers have been manufactured out of sequence, sometimes years later. Also, within a model family the same serial number prefix may be used to produce a variety of different models, all in the same block of serial numbers. And in some cases, models may be stored for a length of time before they are shipped.

For exact information on your specific serial number, you can contact Ruger's Records Department either by telephone or mail.

Sturm, Ruger & Co., Inc.
Records Department
411 Sunapee Street
Newport, NH 03773
Telephone: 603-865-2424
Fax: 603-863-9371

We will be happy to give you the shipping date and model configuration of your Ruger firearm, at no charge. Please include the complete serial number, model number, and any other special markings or features of the firearm in your request.

Wasn't it Deerstalker? Or maybe Deerslayer? I know the other company was Ithaca.

correct,It was the Deerstalker. Ithaca had a shotgun model with the name Deerslayer first and took ruger to court to change there model name I believe.

The 44RS in Exc is $600,if it has "liberty"marked RS carbine it commands a premium and needs to be appraised, the 44 sporter in Exc is $$750, the 44 International with Mannilicher stock is quite collectible in Exc is $800

Older carbines go for around $450-$500 Deerfields go for around $500-$600
if any one has one under $400 iIwill take it. On line gun auctions (Gunbroakers,Guns America, Auction Arms) both sell upwards of $600-$650 I have been looking for the right price a long time.
