Women's Night at the Firing Line!
When: Tuesday, January 24
6:30 - 8:30 p.m.
Where: The Firing Line Indoor Gun Range and Gun Shop
38427 Webb Drive
Westland, MI 48185
Cost: $14 - includes instruction, range time and a free gun rental (ammo not included). Those using rental guns will need to buy their ammo from TFL.
This is a great opportunity for women to get to the range and shoot with other women as well as receiving instruction from nationally certified female instructors and assistance from female range officers in a safe, positive, non-threatening atmosphere.
New shooters are welcome and encouraged to attend! I hear all the time from the guys who want to get their wives, girlfriends, sisters, moms, etc to shoot more. This is the perfect opportunity to get them out to the range, so get the word out!
RSVP is not required, but please email me at pistolinstructor@charter.net if you know you will be attending so I have a rough idea of how many shooters to expect. I hope to see you there!

Sorry about that, Rick! I really have to keep on top of that these days, but that's a good thing! It's all taken care of. Feel free to send me an email as well.

Thanks, Rick.

It would be great if they could come. If you don't mind my asking, what is the issue?

She just does not like the fact that I own guns. You can own guns, Bill down the street can own guns but I can not. We have three small boys that I feel need to learn how to handle and shoot guns. My wife is less than pleased with this. Years ago when she was a very little girl her brother shot himself in front of her with an empty 45. The bullet went in to his calf, 'round his leg and out of his ankle and never touched any thing important. There was a nice mess on the rug, too.
the key thing is education of the children!
brinng them and her to the family day this year in may

Bringing the kids to the M2A class is a good start. I will be there teaching, so I'll see you there. Between the M2A class, women's shoots, and Family Day, you have an opportunity to educate the entire family, and most of the events are free. The women's night is also a great deal, since they get 2 hours of instruction and shooting and a free gun rental for the price of 1 hour on the range!

It may be difficult for your wife to get over the experience of seeing her brother shoot himself. That's quite a traumatic event, and thank God it wasn't more serious, but I'm sure she knows it could have been. As Deputy said, education is the key. Proper storage of your firearms, and proper education of your family will go a long way to prevent such an incident from happening in your home, and to reassure her.

I've asked a friend of mine from the FAA to come. She's very interested and is looking forward to it.

When the kids get educated about guns they more than likely will NOT shoot themselves in the leg or any other body part.
Tell her that.
I have found that when you remove the curiosity factor you have removed about 90% of the problem with kids and guns. Plus they will know they have the intelligence and responsibility to be safe. You will be supprised. My boyscouts act like wild animals till we unlimber the guns then the become serious fast. its great to watch the transformation.
Keep the kid guns in the safe with your guns. this shows them that the bb can be as deadly as the 44. and when the ask to shoot with you unless its a matter of life and death or the weather is really crappy, drop what your doing and take em shooting. this is much easier when you can shoot in your yard.
I started my son out at 4 yrs of age. he is now almost 14 and is on the school trap team and has never had a problem with mishandeling of a weapon. as a matter of fact the coach asked him where he learned about guns. when he found out he asked me to get nra certified for RO. that comes next I guess.
Remove the curiosity factor. empower the children with knowledge and responsibility and you can breath easier. REALLY

you and the rest of us are talking logic to her and that does not work with her. her fear is her fear and no one will talk her out of it. lets put to you this way if my wife or kids where in the back yard and some one went to atack them and i used my hand gun to defened them, my marrige would be over. but hat would not stop me from defending my wife or kids

You have a point. Fear is fear and it is not often rational. Positive experiences do help overcome fear but the person who fears has to be willing. The women's night is a good place for those postive experiences.
Still, she would have to want to overcome her fear. From what you are saying, she has become very comfortable with her fear. The non professional might not be properly equipped.

We had a record turnout - 27 women, most whom considered themselves beginners, so we were hopping! Many of them said they'd definatlely be back again, and they appreciated having the opportunity to learn to shoot with other women. We are discussing whether to limit participation each month or use both sides of the line on women's night so we don't have to turn anyone away. This is a good thing! We are introducing a lot of new shooters to the sport!

Sorry I missed it. I was stuck at the airport waiting for the current wife to arrive. Her plane was delayed 3 hours for repair.
I was going to go and keep Marty company.
