Rabit Hunting

Anybody do any good rabbit hunting this year? Did we ever get good weather and snow at the same time? Season is almost over, and it seems we never had good conditions.

I struck out a ton. But people on another forum I'm on have had great success. They have dogs, though.

The dogs have been running them all day. But with little snow they have been hard to see. And hit. We did get seven between three of us weekend before last out in pickney recreaction area. Thats about average most years. But we were lucky to get three a trip this year. LOTSs of bunnies on state land out there. Little pressure. Zero for 5 last weekend. Didnt bother this weekend.We mostly hunt there and Irish Hills area. But I would say its way below average this year.

i knew you would


years ago i was lucky enough to spot a little hopper (normal size bunny) during deer season

you know at 40yards with a good scoped 12 ga if you put the slug just at the top of the ears the head comes clean off no mess


my 1st year with my Omega ML in 50 cal the last day of the season i had to unload the gun so i figured why waste a shot at the ground to i went walking looking for a good long shot to practice on

well i kicked a rabbit up at 10 yards or so and he ran straight away down a farm lane and for some dumb reason i followed him in the scope when he stopped and sat up looking bak at what spooked him i cocked the hammer and dumped the trigger

well the slug took his head right off
when i paced it 97 steps
not thinking i really made that shot i set up a pop bottle and went back to same spot and hit it

DAMN the ML is a shooter

i need to learn how to post a pic i took of the headless rabbit although on second thought it may be over the top for a public forum
