Success finally on Saturday 5/13. After seeing/hearing next to nothing for several days, I heard a couple shock-gobbles after some crow calls. I beat feet out to my blind at about 2pm, set up my decoys, jumped into the blind & heard mad gobbling behind me. I did a few purrs & that was responded to by more gobbles. Then, he didn't like something and wandered off. I waited til he was out of sight & did 2 hailing calls....then went silent. I saw some movement & it was a hen walking straight at me. I still kept silent & the gobbler was about 35 yards behind her. She walked past me & the gobbler caught sight of my decoys. He circled them & stepped into one of my clearings....and he was history! It would have been a great bow shot (15 yards) but I'm running handicapped right now, got my left hand in a cast. So....I feel pretty good about this bird. He's about 18-19 pounds, 9 inch beard and about 3/4 inch spurs.
