I am looking into getting a handgun. I have narrowed the search down to several revolvers and several pistols"
Browning hi point 9mm, a glock in either 40sw or 9mm (Models 19,22,35), Smith and Wesson 686 or 64 both in .38sp/.357, and the Steyr M-A1 40sw. or the M-A1 9mm.
This gun will be used mainly for target practice and possible later on as a carry gun when I turn 21. Right now I am 18. I am looking for your opinions and suggestions.. Open to anything really. This will also be my first handgun. I dont want to spend more than $400. thanks again

Well you have chosen some very nice pistols. I would first recommend the Glock line for ease of use, lightweight, very easy to carry concealed and accuracy. I have several and the G-19 is a very good carry gun.

The Browning Hi-Power (I think that is what you mean) is also a fine gun and fits in the hand very well. It's very accurate and is a super carry gun but it would require being carried "cocked and locked" like a 1911.

I would avoid the revolvers as they are only 5 or 6 shots where as the semi-autos have as many as 15 in the mag.

I would also consider the Springfield XD line. These are similar to the Glocks but have a slightly different feel and hold that some folks prefer better.

Good luck

Go with a 4" Smith wheel gun in .357 and you won't be disappointed in your selection for a first handgun.
