New to the forum, as well as to handguns. Bought a Sig P226 9mm Navy about 6 weeks ago and really enjoy "getting to know it" at the range. Thinking about getting involved in IDPA now that the weather is improving.
I live just outside Grand Rapids and am taking my CPL class this Saturday.
Glad to be able to participate here and looking forward to learning more from what the forum has to offer.

So where did you get you Sig and what range do you use?
Ahhh, did someone say IDPA????
Capitol City Rifle Club in Williamston, Germany Rd between Barton and Williamston Rd. See our page on the forum lnks.
We are having the Classifier this month, 3/31. Then a match every 4th Saturday from April to Oct.
April will be a regular match, and May will be a "Caboodle" (more like a shooting gallery with lots of steel), and alternating thereafter each month.
Morning session sign up starting 8:30, match starts at 9:00am. Afternoon session sign up around 11:30-ish, match around 12-12:30 or so. Lunch in between sessions. Shoot one or both. $20 for first, $10 for second for non-members of CCRC.
Bring pistol 9mm or revolver .38 or above, 150-200 rds ammo, vest or shirt for concealment, standard belt holster, double mag holder, 3 mags minimum, eyes/ears. "Cold" range. Great fun.
PS: You don't need a concealment vest for the Classifier or for Caboodles, only regular matches.

One and the same, Tallbear.....Silver Bullet Firearms in Wyoming (G.R. suburb). Indoor range with 12 lanes. Nice store, too.
I'm looking into the South Kent Sportsmen's Club near Dorr for summer range use and IDPA.

That's just a simple, many-step 'test' to put you in a class according to your score: Marksman, Sharpshooter, Expert, etc, so you will be eligible for prizes (ribbons) and then your future match scores will be rated with the others in your class/division. It is not necessary to have shot the Classifier to shoot regular matches. You would just be 'unclassified.' The 'division' you shoot in is determined by the pistol. Sig 226 9mm is SSP, I believe. Go to w.idpa.com for info, downloadable rules, etc. Go to our site for tons of pix of past events: w.ccrifleclub.org.
Ya, Silver Bullet... Ron Reese: a buddy and excellent shooter.

You just say "Honey, the boys and I are going shootin."
And then you pack your bags and prepare to sleep in the barn for a month.

Better yet take her shooting with you. My wife was hesitant but when I took the kids and included her she went along and now she drags me (yeah right like I need an excuse to shoot!)

Believe me....I'm working on getting her involved somehow, but its a slow process. We are making progress, so I'm trying to be patient.
One step at a time, eh?

Even better... let someone else, preferably female, take her out and teach her. It's like a guy teaching his wife to drive. Doesn't work well.

100% correct and if there was any chance we were going to act like when she drives then i definatly did not want to involve a firearm.
Here is what I did. My freind and his wife were over playing cards one night and we casually brought up some firearm related topics and recent news stories about women carrying etc and before we knew it we had our wives asking us to take them one day. Individually they were a bit intimidated but together they felt comfort in the fact that they knew they wouldnt be the only newbie there. Well thats all it took. She loves to shoot now and she may even be a bit of a recoil junkie. Prefers my .45 or .357 over the .380 i had at the time. The more punch the better. Now if I can get her to control it we'll be good.
And welcome by the way:coolgleam:

Sounds like a good approach, you guys.
Thanks...I'll work on that. It would be great to get her involved and more comfortable with firearms.
