FRIDAY AT 11 P.M. (http://www.clickondetroit.com/tvlistings/)
It’s ladies' night out, but this is no purse or candle party! This ladies' night starts with a bang! Their aim is to have fun, but how good is their aim? See for yourself.

Looked like a good (fair?) story from what little I could hear of it. That's the trouble with being in a bar... errr... I mean restaurant, at that hour, only can watch, as it was still to early for me to control it. My regular hangout. I’m a night owl, eat 9-10, and hang around ‘till close, (11-12) sometimes do closing work.
Anybody else see it?

Ladies Night Out, With A Bang
September 28, 2007
DETROIT
Ladies night out has taken on new and smoking meaning for some local women.
Welcome to ladies night at the Firing Line in Westland on Thursday evenings. The gun range is becoming one of the fastest growing get-together--for women only.
The Firing Line invites women of all ages and experience to take a shot at the correct and safe way to shoot a gun. All the classes are taught by nationally recognized instructors.
“We want to promote lady shooting because we know how important it is for women to shoot. We want to make sure the women have fun and learn but they always target safety first,” said Firing Line instructor Diane Palansky.
Palansky works at local hospital by day and is a gun range instructor by night.
“Women just want to be more responsible for themselves and do fun things on their own. A lot of times, they just get a whole group coming up here,” said Palansky.
Whether shattering stereotypes about women or myths about guns, ladies night is becoming more and more popular as more women are signing up --forcing the Firing Line to consider expanding the event to twice a month.
“I feel exhilarated. My heart is beating really, really fast and I am proud that I can actually shoot and aim,” said participant Billie Jean.
Ladies night at the Firing Line runs for two hours and gun rental is free, but you have to pay for the ammunition.
Every woman Local 4 News talked to said it was worth every penny.

Anyone notice that Ladies Night was done by MGO members for a long time and when it proved successful, The Firing Line made it their own?
Karen Knoll and others put a lot into that program at TFL.
"She who's name is not spoken" (around here) had a ladies night going at Target Sports years ago for the group whose name is not spoken. It did get some press.

I'm glad its being done, we need more women into shooting and hunting.
It doesn't matter who does it as long as its being.
Karen is still doing the Women CPL classes which is a good thing for Women.
And Karen and Marty deserve the all the credit for keeping the women shoot concept going
Yes good point she started it got them going handled it from ground Up the only reason there is a news spot about it is because of karen.... and those from mgo who helped there as well... that was karen;s program from the day 1
last i knew diane wasnt a certifed Instructor either.....

MGO does have a link to the firing line look in the advertizers section on the left of the home page.

But what I am reading is conflicting with what I was told. Perhaps hearing both sides would be better suited for an informed opinion. That is all I will say on that matter. I will agree Karen has done alot for the women shooters. The hole in the garbage can is still there (from someone else) On the left side of the range I made it a point to use that for a "see what can happen if you dont pay attention to safety topic in todays class" Which did have a few of the women Karen shot with on womens days down there.

Greg, Gary and Steve, I am overwhelmed by your kind words. Thank you.
Well, Rick, I don’t know what you’ve heard but since you have never asked me about it, but here’s the history. First of all, the barrel. The barrel was not a safety violation. It was being used for cover by another RSO. The student shot the cover, something that many students do. It was during a standard shooting exercise and no safety violations occurred. It was an issue of the student not rolling out from cover far enough. I wouldn’t be too critical of that if I were you. I’ve seen you shoot cover as well. The offer to replace the barrel was made and the person was told not to worry about it.
As for the history of Women’s Night - almost three years ago I approached the EC and the Firing Line with the idea to do an MGO women’s shoot. It was my hope that as a female shooter and instructor, maybe I could encourage other women to shoot and provide instruction in a non-threatening atmosphere from a female perspective. At the time, I was serving on the EC, and EC and Firing Line thought it was a a great idea. On January 29, 2005, we put on our first women’s shoot cooperatively with the help of MGO volunteers including Sarge, Paddy Lauren and RSO Diane. Sorry if I can’t remember everyone who helped at that point but everyone’s help was very much appreciated. The shoot was a huge success, and brought in several new female members to MGO. We all felt that it was crucial to get more women shooting and involved in gun rights in Michigan, and this was a positive step. On February 18 & 19, 2005, K&M did a women’s cpl benefit class in cooperation with the Firing Line and M2A, from which all of the proceeds were donated to M2A for the Child Safety program. The Firing Line was very generous in donating the use of the classroom and range, and Jim Simmons also donated his legal presentation fee to this great cause. These events were such a huge success that the Firing Line decided to make women’s night a monthly event, and they asked me to run it. The first Firing Line Women’s Night was March 31, 2005. The goal at that time was to introduce new women to shooting, and develop their skills and confidence to the point where they would feel confident enough to return to the range and shoot on their own without an instructor or the help of their husband, boyfriend, etc. Another goal was to attract families to the Firing Line. I happily volunteered many hours to planning, promoting and running women’s night with the help of the guys at the Firing Line, Marty, Sarge, Corinne, Diane, and a few RSO’s. The event was a huge success, and many women went on to enroll in concealed carry classes at the Firing Line and/or sport shooting as well as returning to the Firing Line women’s nights. We all put a great deal of effort into helping the women feel confident and build their skills, and the feedback we got was excellent. I know because they filled out surveys after every shoot, and I still hear from many of them. However, as some of you know, in September of 2006, my Dad became terminally ill and toward the end of his illness, I no longer had the time to volunteer. It was an issue of family first After he passed, I returned to the Firing Line shoots and found that their goals had changed and they had decided to go in a different direction with Women’s Night. Tommy made it very clear to me that it was in no way a reflection on me or my teaching, and they were very appreciative of the quality of my instruction and the hard work I had devoted to women’s nights. It was nothing personal, it was a business decision, and I was more than welcome to stay on and continue volunteering at women’s night. However, my goals for women’s instruction were different. I have no hard feelings, and I still think the folks at the FIring Line are top notch, and I still send them customers. From what I understand from the glowing recommendations that Tommy has given about me to others, as well as feedback I have received from him, the feeling is mutual. I am gratified to know that the Firing Line Shoots are still going strong. The more women we can get shooting safely and learning to be proactive about their personal safety, supporting our 2nd amendment rights and/or becoming involved in shooting sports, the better off we are.
As for going to see Don, I'd be more than happy to meet up with you at the Firing Line and talk to Don together. Don's a great guy, and I'd love to see him again.

The only thing I was going to see Don about was to put a link to MGO On their site.
Furthmore K of K/M I was stating that there are 2 sides to every story It was a genaric term if you feel so inclined to think it was directed at you spare me. The News reports what it is told and yes to set the record straight You and Marty shared your unsolicited opinions on many subjects at my home including how you felt certain places were not treating you fairly. Some of which had to do with places of business, gunclubs, gun org's and people sometimes i agreed with you but the times i didnt or thought for myself you went on the defense with me just like now. I am not nor will not say anyone is right or wrong in a situation except for my own I dont really care about the news report other than it shows a good light on women getting into the "Sport" of shooting. If you read my post I agreed with Greg that you have done alot to get more women into shooting I think its great. I think what really got you steamed is a few women from those classes called MiCpl.net instead of K/M again who cares it had nothing to do with you they are neighbors of my stepsons dad thats all. I will climb down off my soap box you get off your horse.
