Ok - I hope people are still looking at this forum... seems pretty quiet. Anyway, the father of a friend built a CVA flintlock pistol, and we were chatting at a party the other day and he never got the flint to consistently generate sparks.

He was thinking he might need to rough sand the frizzen slightly, but did not know. I can adjust it, get one good spark, then after that it will barely spark at all.

Anyone have any ideas what this might be and what you could do to fix it?

Thanks in advance,

I bought a flinter kit and put it together and was having the same problem. It seems the company who sold it decided to case harden the frizzen which makes it very hard to get any sparks from a flint. I finally took my trusty dremal tool to it and really did some grinding and now it will fire and throw sparks but not as well as my other flinters.

Thank you - I had guessed it might be something like that... It's worth a try.

I have found that the T/C flints do not work as well as as real flints. The real flints are cheaper too, if you can find them.
