Any outstanding/unique smoked salmon recipies out there? I'm headed to Alaska next week for salmon and halibit fishing and just wondering if there is anything new to try in the smokin' world.

I don't have any recipe but I do have a story.

My Dad was at a hole in the wall bar having a burger and this guy walked in. A little rough looking but he seemed to know everyone in the place. He had some "smoked salmon" in some tinfoil and was offering it to people. My Dad ate a couple pieces.

Then the guy started talking about his smoking technique. He said he starts a fire then hangs the fish a BLOCK away, lets the smoke blow over and cook it.

Turns out that he was some crazy, homeless guy and pops ate, at best, raw salmon. Neither myself or my father would recommend this "technique". :barf:

While I can't vouch for smoking your salmon a block away from the fire...you can cold smoke which means it's techincally not cooked. It's very good, I've done it with Salmon once. The fish is preserved, so you can eat it well after it's been smoked with no ill effects.

I eat raw fish anyways...I could live on sushi if I had the money...raw salmon is VERY high on my list of awesome things to eat. Even when I grill it's only cooked medium rare, just enough to get some good color on the outside.

I love sushi too as long as it's not made by the guy that served my father!

Last year on this trip (we have been doing this for about 5 years now) we some how ended up with one salmon over the limit. Turns out that every boat out there has wasabi and soy sauce on board for just this type of problem. Problem solved before we got back to the dock.

I love sushi... but only after it's been over the fire for a while.

Oh man..we got Salmon a few weeks ago, and BBQ'd it on the grill with some homemade BBQ Sauce we got down in GA (Good god, everybody and their grandma sells their own homemade BBQ Sauce in Georgia...).. I swear that salmon tasted like Steak when we ate it... SOOOO good.
