OK...on all the gun forums I frequent I get to look at all the SBR porn that people living in other states are free to own. I could handle it for a while...but I WANT ONE DAMMIT!

So what is there for me (or us) to do to get these legalized in Michigan, along with supressors and SBS? Contact my reps? Will that even do anything? Do I have to wait until Jenny gets promoted?

I'd just like to know how to go about this, because this is something I REALLY want, even more so then eliminating handgun registration. I remember hearing a while back that some orgs were trying to get this done, but came up empty. I don't want to do something pointless and waste my time, so I'm asking anyone more knowledgeable then me to tell me where to apply my resources.

Aren't we one of the few states that do not allow for all of these?

It will never happen... there is no atvantage to an SBR other than its size in tight quaters and CDI factor they are noiser, more blast and less terminal performance but other than that they are cool .. some of the guys that demanded changes made pissed off some folks in lansing with there demands.. so i hear

Yeah, but a Thompson 1928A1 is more than just cool.

Buy a Spikes Tactical Pistol lower and a pistol upper, then register your new pistol.
It's the only way we will be able to own an "SBR like" pistol in MI until the AG says it's okay.

I wanted one bad myself but after investigating further, the AR Pistol route is the only way to go in MI for now.
Plus if you wait till January, you won't have to deal with the local PD freakin out about registering an AR lower as a pistol. Just send in the paper work when you buy the lower and you're done.

Amen to that,

the stupid part on the Thompson, is I can buy the short barrel as a pistol, but can add the stock

I don't want an AR pistol, though. I think that's a dumb idea, if I want a pistol I'[ll go buy one in a regular handgun caliber.

I want a 10" barrel, and a stock to go with it. Do I have any real need for it? Of course not...but this is America, and I should be able to get one!

Whatever you want you better get it before January or you might not get it at all.

Even more than an SBR, I want to be able to get a suppressor.

Though, an SBR PS90 would be a pretty freaking cool toy.

I know it sucks but for now the AR pistol is the only way to go in MI. You can have any length barrel you want since it's a pistol and the buffer tube with foam on it gives a better cheek weld then you might think. But you didn't hear that from me ;)

Guess your stuck buying a full auto if you want a SBR :)

I wonder if it's illegal to sew a makeshift "stock" onto a vest, that just so happens to accept an AR receiver extensions...

TBH, I think that might work. Just sew a hard plastic plate onto a vest, and make it so there is an dent in it that will more or less hold the buffer tube in place. Couldn't call that a stock, and it's not attached to the firearm.

If you're going to make it a .223/5.56 you won't need that plastic plate. You won't feel the recoil through the buffer tube as bad as you might think.

Strong two hand grip, good cheek weld and a little shoulder.

I'd love to have a MAC-10 with supressor and stock, even if it was only semi auto.

Ok maybe I am a little overzealous ......

I would settle for one of these PPSH 41's, if you havent ever shot one, they are a blast in full auto.....

Everyone knows the Königs Tigers were made with poor materials - you'd be getting jipped. Its like stamped vs milled. I'd much rather have an original tiger - or perhaps a panther!

Are C&R SBRs legal in MI?

Got to go with Steve on this. No real advantage.

A SBR would be a little better, but not much more to warrant one. I've shot my 16" AR in a room of an abandoned home, and the noise blast is extremely loud; even with ear protection. I really don't want anything with more muzzle blast.

Now an SBR with a supressor, that would be cool. Only in dream land for now.

When I took his Carbine 1 class a couple years ago, he showed how a 16" AR15 held against the shoulder took about the same forward space as a handgun held out. That was a good reality check about the myths of smaller firearms.

I really don't care about any tactical advantages gained or lost with a SBR...I want one because I want one, and I think it's dumb this state has a law against it.

Same with a SBS. I think we can all agree a 10" shotgun holding 3 rounds isn't very useful...but it looks awesome and I want it.

I'm with Joeywhat, an SBR is cool and I'd like to have one. Do we need them? No more so than we need the average car to go more than 80 mph. No more than we need horses, HD tv, large 4x4 pickup trucks, classic cars, model trains, etc. It would be nice to be able to have them.

Counterpoint, some politicians will always look at guns as a deadly weapon used to murder children and they will never approve of a smaller, more easily concealed "high powered rifle that is readily capable of shooting down airplanes, peppering a bus load of special needs school children on their way to the zoo." (this is a satirical example of their thinking, not mine). We need to help educate the leaders in Lansing AND D.C. about our rights and hopefully they'll be swayed our direction for once.

Would you care to share the information on how to own one legally?????

I had to take my MSAR into warren because it was under 30" and they freaked out, the gun counter ladies first question is what I planned to do with it?

I wanted to say I had a serious squirrel problem in my yard, but chickened out and said it was a collection piece.
