so when you attend an Open Carry picnic or gathering how do you choose what sidearm to carry?

i LOVE my Colt 1911 types (govt and commander) along with my King Cobra, my Colt Cowboy (too cowboy-ish or renegade-ish?) and while not as stylish, my G22 is very comfortable to carry...

i would be about as conflicted as SOME women are when they are trying to decide what to wear...

Carry what makes you comfortable.

Lots of options for sure. I am going to give OC a try this weekend.

Gonna start with an SP101

So do I need to go full OC or an exposed IWB holster?

Nev'r been to one, but my imagination as drawn an image. Good luck.

I'll never forget the first rule on the "rules of a Gunfight"...it is...."bring a gun".....

Being a Boy Scout and a world traveler, I've learned that there is no such thing as being overprepared.

Yes

I guess what I am trying to ask... is the point to display / draw attention to / make a statement....hip / drop leg holster
or
carry semi exposed, enough that the gun will most likely be noticed.

I carry every day. If I have pants and belt the holster is on but it is usually totally concealed. In familiar settings I am not concerned because most know I carry but in public it is totally concealed less any print.

I guess to ask this another way, what is the motive to OC.
To exercise the right, to make a statement?

As you might guess by my username I am all for the 2nd and I believe that educating the public so that we as a country are as comfortable with someone carrying a firearm as someone carrying a cellphone.

I do not however think an agressive in you face strategy would be all that productive, even if it is a right. I dont think our culture is ready for the pendulum to swing that fast. The meetings I am reading about however look very productive.

Which meetings are these? Are they the MOC open carry get-togethers? If so why not come to one and meet and talk to some that OC often. You don't have to OC to have fun and meet some future friends. Despite what is tossed about on this topic most of the people that show up are decent and a lot of fun.

If and when I do OC I'll carry something big. Right now my XD45 compact has be assigned to carry duty, and the G20 put back in the safe for a bit...if I don't need to stuff it down my pants, might as well carry more firepower :flame:
