Hey all, I did a search and this didn't turn up.

Opencarry.org is having a get together @ The Coffee Beanery in Berkley December 21st.

http://opencarry.mywowbb.com/view_topic.php?id=15478&forum_id=30&jump_to=310152#p310152

Just thought some might like to know if you are not a member at OC.org.

I am not a big open carry person, but love to get together with other gun folks.

Dang it! Ment to put this in the General Forum.

I think you'll be bored if thats why you want to come out.

But if you want to learn a bit about OC and meet some nice people I think you'll have a good time.

From what I gather it should be a packed house.

I just hope they have good coffee.

Too bad it's not between Xmas and New Years...I'd probably make it out if it were.

Seems all these sorts of events are either on bad days for me, or somewhere far away :|

I'm willing to drive if you like.

And no you don't HAVE to OC.

Coffee is very good. Though I am surprised, I thought it to have a very liberal
cliental.

I'm concerned about the snow. That will definitely affect our turn-out. Let's hope it's a nice day with clear roads as I'm driving from the Lansing area.

One person mentioned our events are too far away, we have had people drive 3 hours to come to our events. I often drive 1-2 hours to met up with these fine people and I haven't been disappointed yet. Good people and good times. Some are even members of MGO...that's just an opening to say I joined today:woohoo1:

That wouldn't be the reason I come out. I'd like to see what its all about. I OC'd in Novi a couple of times and caused a scene everywhere I went. Not by any actions of my own, i simply went to pick up some Thai food, but the scarred yuppie libs out here gasped in shock. Its ridiculous. Id like to see what the group has to say about such situations.

About the other issue, Berkley :cop: won't be too far away. They aren't known to approve of this sort of thing.. Just call them and ask ;)

Hope to see you there, do come and see what doesn't happen. In regards to scaring people we don't hear of that happing too often. We have found that those in the 18-25 year old range get more attention from the LEO's than us older guys and gals.

As for talking to the police about OC I have yet to hear of one encouraging it. They have there views on it and tend to try and discourage it whenever they can. But of the thousands of hours our members have OCed, very few
"bad" encounters are reported.

And even these encounters will be less as more people OC. It would be nice if the almost 180,000 CPL holders would OC one hour a week to see what doesn't happen and to get the public used to the sight of lawful citizens OCing. Perhaps some day.

Well, pray the weather isn't too bad. I am driving about an hour, which isn't too bad, but it will effect me if it is too nasty out.

Trying to talk the wife into coming, I want her to see carrying is more normal than she thinks. And that the folks doing it aren't paranoid weirdos.

I'd go, but I think I'd look pretty silly with a gun belt and holster wrapped around my parka. :)

Pretty nasty out this morning. Wouldn't be so bad if it werent for the idiots on the road.

Took me an hour to get to work today, usually it's half an hour.

The snow wasn't the worst part. It's people only doing 20 mph on the freeway that makes it so bad. In places I could get around them I could do 45 just fine. (Front Wheel Drive Car)

Thats because a lot of them are running around on bald tires....

I love counting the cars in the ditch and the tire tracks going into the ditches on my way to and from work.

Despite the weather we had a little over 20 people show up. There was a nice slide show on OC. I think everyone took away something new. Nobody panicked, not even the children, no LEO's showed up. All in all it was nice to see old friends and meet some new.

There was a nice young couple that was next to our group. She was from Michigan and living in Idaho with her better half (home for the holidays). She is a law student and was very interested in what we had to say. She didn't know OC was legal in Michigan. The man was used to OC since he was raised in Idaho. I talked with them and they are interested in getting CPL's especially when I told them that Michigan recognizes all non-resident CPL's from their home state.

You can always post a request on the site for a get together - just start a new thread.

Here is another radical idea...post a new thread here asking for the same. We have mirrored a few of the events posted there on the MGO board. Why not post an event here which could be mirrored on the other? Just a thought.

Always remember that open carry will always remain a practice. Any group that claims it as a reason for their existence cannot keep you from taking your own initiatives. An open carry event can be as simple as two or three friends meeting in a coffee shop.

Your first "event" should be structured to allow you to become accustomed to carrying in public. This can be accomplished in a very low key fashion - perhaps by just taking a walk with a friend in Ford Lake Park (in warmer weather perhaps). Always consider creating your own "event." Carry on...

I wouldn't recommend Ford Lake Park for OC... unfortunately Ypsi Parks are CEZs.

Found that out when the wife and I were going to go for a picnic there last summer.

How do Yipsi parks fall under MCL 750.234d and MCL and 28.426o? Or, under what law can they ban firearms? Are they not public?

Those parks are run by the township, and are therefore covered under preemption. It looks like we have an opportunity to write some letters, and plan some picnics for the summer.

Sorry about my leading question above.

Sorry about my leading question above.

"Park Rangers on duty during the park season that patrols all of the parks within the Township. If you need assistance, our park staff is there to serve you!"

We should invite the Ranger for a discussion on OC and Preemption if we do have a picnic there.

I like the idea of waiting till summer for the picnics as it will be warmer and to go now, in the winter, is just stupid.

But I guess if someone has the balls and is a man and wants to set it up in the cold, I'll be there if they are.

LISTEN! THE ONLY EXUSE (...er, reason) WE ARE NOT OUT THERE RIGHT NOW IS THE LANSING RALLY!

Well, now that I think about it...I cannot attend the rally...and, er, that doesn't cover tomorrow...and, er...I do live in Michigan. Well, on second thought...I just don't want to freeze my little toes off.
