Parallel between what Kimber45 Link (http://www.migunowners.org/forum/showpost.php?p=367167&postcount=5) posted and our experiences with Open Carrying.

I have NRA and USPSA decals on my Jeep and have had them on all my vehicles for as long as I can remember. I've never had a problem. Walking into the FiringLine one day Tommy looked at me and asked, "John, do yo own anything that doesn't say NRA on it?" For every negative comment I've had about guns from people I've had dozens of positive ones. I'm proud of my sport and I let it be known.

And this has been my experience with OC'ing as-well as the experience of most others.

I'm not sure why this is so hard to believe. As soon as you help people realize it's not illegal they're ok with it....really, it's true.

Here's a little ditty for you to think about.

Ted Nugent says that he is against the practice of OC but is "for the legality of it".

He says that in todays society, with all the recidivistic criminals running around that Open Carrying is like putting a great big Bullseye on your back that says "shoot me first".

Ponder this.

Everyone knows Uncle Teddy carries....EVERYONE! He proudly exclaims at every chance he gets that he is a sheepdog with TEETH. What "element of surprise" does he have? What difference would it matter if he carried concealed or open? Would it really make any difference at all if he wore a huge neon sign on top of his head that said "Attention, This guy has an expensive gun, wore on his hip!" (with arrows pointing at the gun and flashing lights)

What is OC but for the common man an exclamation that this person is a sheepdog with teeth, a simple "Beware of dog" sign.

If Ted REALLY believed the whole "element of suprise" he whould shut his mouth and tell people that he has stopped carrying.

P.S. Kimber45, I'm NOT calling you out in this post. It's just that when you posted that it got me thinking.

What percentage of recidivistic criminals do you think would even recognize Terrible Ted on the street?

Anyway, I don't think he was talking about just him....more about the practice in general.

As far as the sheep dog with teeth.....well, let me explain it this way.

In my younger days....I could have either cut the hood to let what was under it breath where everybody could see what had or, I could get an air cleaner that went down over the double pumper and had a nice clean hood.

The only way you might have know was at an idle or.....at red lights.

I prefer subtlety.....and even more so as I age.

Yep, that went over my head... (I think it's obvious I'm not a car person)

Ok, I used to drive a CJ5 that I could put up on the side two wheels and ride without the benefit of ramps. It made me money....I'll leave it at that.

I used to have an old Bronco.....and unless you knew from listening to the rough idle that it you were listening to the effects of a cam rather than a lousy tune up....OR, you wound up with a great view of my rear license plate at a red light....you would not know what I was running....and I loved it. Being a sleeper often provides a very competitive edge.

I am not a dog. I have no desire to snarl. But, things go wrong and you might just find this old dog is a silent dog that doesn't bark but, can and will bite.

Hey, thanks, I get what you mean now! And yes, I agree, better fly under the radar and never need to use the skills you have acquired then flaunt them and find yourself compromised if you should need them.

Open carry is a personal preference that requires knowledge of current laws in your area. I've open carried in the past and would do it again in curtain circumstances.

Like your next road trip to Wyoming? Now that they yanked CPL reciprocity, I don't know for sure what I am going to do. At least out there, I think you can OC in a vehicle even without a permit.

DD, after checking on handgunlaws.com, looks like a CPL holder from MI is still good in WY. Also looked at the AG site in WY and it still looks good there also as of today. Looks like MI is honoring all the other states resident CPL,CCW's and permits now. Did'nt use to do that. I did'nt mean to hijack this OC thread. Later, Bob

First off Open Carry IS LEGAL. Second, it is a personal choice. If you don't agree with it, don't do it. That's YOUR choice.

I simply stated my preference. What is your point?

I didn't know Uncle Ted even questioned the open carry issue. He seems so pro-gun in every other area. Hmmm........interesting.
