How many of you boys shoot replica revolvers? I'm not new to gunning but newer to BP. Picked up a Pietta 1858 a few months ago and just love it.

I've been loking at BP revolvers as a back-up durring ML season. From what I've been told is that there is'nt much in the way of accuracy. How is Your's? I was looking at the 1858 Reminton from Cabelas.

I picked up a Pietta 1860 Army at Cabelas last year. I've only shot 1 cylinder full as they gave me the wrong size caps so I didn't even bother loading it up for a second round. Out of my first and only 6 rds. at 25 yds. 4 were in the x ring, one was touching the x ring and one was about 2 inches out. Not bad for a handgun whose rear sight is a notch on the hammer. Gonna have to play with that one a little more this year.

That kind of accuracy suits me fine. What did you pay for it?

A word of caution to everyone....Stay away from the replicas with the brass frame. Brass is to soft of a material and start to become loose after awhile.

I would say mine is fairly accurate. I have a little tendonitus in my right elbow so I'm forced to two hand grip. At least left hand under. @ about 30yds the basic sighting down the frame with the top of the front site even is in a 6" plate every shot. Shooting 30g American Pioneer, 451 balls (This is all Gander carries and I'll be making my own .454 soon I hope) and a wonder wad between the two. Remington #10 cap perfect fit.

Anywhere near that range...if it's brown it's down.

I shoot an 1858 Remington replica in .44; I'd eventually like to get an 1860 Colt Army in .44 as well.

I dont have a replica.... I shoot a Ruger Old Army. I love it and its lots of fun. Best of all its a Ruger so you cant over load it. Top the cylinder off with powder, press in a ball, cap it and shoot away.

That's true of any C&B revolver. Too much powder won't let the ball seat deep enough to rotate the cylinder. As long as you don't use 4f powder, you don't have to worry about using too much. Though I have found the best accuracy is usually about 10 grains less than what the cylinder is capable of holding.

I have a Remington 1858 replica and I'm trading for a Ruger Vaquero that I plan on loading some BP rounds for.

Just added an 1858 Army to the collection. Cabelas has a $50 off coupon on it in their Spring Savings book. Just got it in the mail yesterday. Picked up the gun today. $169.99 with coupon. Sale's good through the 10th.

I shot the 1858 Remington today at a silhouette target and managed to keep all six shots in the body by point shooting it. If I use the sights, it shoots to the left. I'm working on the front sight now by filing the right side of the blade and adding some JB Weld to the left side of the blade to effectively move the front sight to the left.

I got my Ruger Vaquero Wednesday and I placed an order for a box of GOEX Black Dawge black powder cartridges to go with it.

What brand 1858 do you have? I'm hoping this Pietta from Cabelas is as right on as my Pietta 1860 Army.

My C&B is a Dixie Gun Works brand revolver. When I e-mailed them the serial number to find out who they had manufacture it for them, they couldn't tell me. :( I was going to get a 45 Colt cylinder for it but without knowing who made it, it was too much of a crap shoot.
