Well it was a pretty cool event. MOC had about 15 people that were OCing. We passed out about a 100 open carry brochures (we could have passed out more but ran out.). Many people asked questions about OC and it was a great change to get the word out.

One guy went to one of the many state troopers walking around the crowd and asked if OC was legal. The trooper pointed to our group and said "ask them they have all the info you need". The guy stopped by and we gave him the info and chatted a bit.

Go here to see Kimberguy on national TV He's the one in the bow-tie.

So your happy with your tax bracket?

Shouldn't have called it a tea party. I don't think the name fit really.

While I'm entirely unhappy with the country's fiscal policy since WWI, I don't really see much of a way out of it.

People are concerned that their grandchildren will be paying for us. Well, even if we stopped borrowing ENTIRELY until the debt was paid off, we'd be paying down the debt for 76 years. So why weren't they concerned when Bush changed our fiscal policy so that we DOUBLED our national debt from 5 to 10 trillion?

Why weren't they pissed off when Reagan ballooned our debt threefold? WHAT TOOK SO DANGED LONG? :fur3:

We've been spending money like it was going out of style, when we should have been SAVING when the times are good so that when times are bad, we have reserves stored up and can weather the storm.

At this point, it's too late. We've borrowed ourselves into such a huge hole that we'll likely never get out.

I say, we do the same thing everyone else has done to us, back in WWII when we rendered billions in assistance: stiff the bill (then ready the guns).

Self employment tax sucks.....

But, with the way the housing market is right now....income taxes are the least of my concerns....

See people don't notice when you OC, just like we've been saying. If a former police officer like you doesn't notice we must be doing something right.

I didn't see any guns in the only photo posted in this thread prior to my response. What I was pointing out is if those people in the photo were carrying, I couldn't see the gun. Please point them out to me in the thread photo.

I hadn't seen that new photo I guess. Heck, I dunno...it was awhile ago....and both my memory and my eyesight are not what they used to be.

In the photo I posted the three people facing the camera were all OCing. I'm the guy in the black shirt and my weapon is on my right side, put out of the picture. The man in the orange shirt is OCing, but his arm covers most of it and the woman is OCing on her right side which is away from the camera.

I believe you.

And once again, we find that certain methods of supposed open carry apparently conceal the pistol from view (as depicted in the photo).

Now you might be able to understand why somebody with an IWB might get popped for concealed carry if they lacked a CPL.

The photo posted was an excellent example of how that might happen. Thank you.

So your happy with your tax bracket?

Did your group being there have anything to do with my tax brackets? Or was it just a way to use a large group of people with media coverage and etc. to push your OC agenda? I don't disagree with OC, but I don't see from the photos or from the discussion, what you were doing to help my taxes which was the reason for the event.

So, in your opinion, unless a gun can be seen from 360 degrees, it's not OC?

That's why MOC doesn't encourage OCing with an IWB holster unless they have a CPL. The IWB concern has not been addressed in a court so there is no legal precedent. But the general meaning of the concealed law is would a reasonable person see and recognize that the person had a handgun on them. Would a reasonable person seeing a handgun in an IWB holster recognize it as a gun? My opinion is yes.

I don't think the intent of the concealed carry law means that the weapon must be visible all the time from all directions or you would have to wear it on you head. We have discussed this to death. And just because someone doesn't notice a person is OCing does not mean that he is concealing.

Refer to the quote by the teacher that was at this event, according to some the fact that she never saw a handgun doesn't mean that our members where concealing a gun.

Gun group targets litter

By Catherine Kavanaugh, Daily Tribune Staff Writer

FERNDALE — Lawrence Morton was surprised to see a pistol-packing, cleanup crew bagging litter along Woodward Avenue as he waited Saturday at a bus stop.

"It doesn't seem like there's a need for it here," the Detroit resident said of the men with firearms in holsters. "No one does that in my neighborhood."

When asked if he knew of anyone who carried a concealed weapon in his neighborhood, Morton just laughed.

The 10 members of Michigan Open Carry, Inc., a nonprofit, pro-firearms organization, raised some eyebrows as they tried to raise awareness about the right for anyone age 18 or older to openly carry a legally registered handgun.

"It's a little known law," Ferndale Lt. Bill Wilson said. "They use it to test rookies. They'll ask: What do you do if you see someone with a six-shooter strapped to his waist. The answer better be nothing or the rookie needs remedial training.

"If they are not brandishing it in a threatening way or going inside a bar, bank or school, which are some of the prohibitions, they are not breaking any law."

MOC President Brian Jeffs wore a 9 mm handgun in plain view as he handed out garbage bags in the parking lot of Ferndale Foods.

"We want to get people used to this," the Bath resident said.

"We're trying to make Michigan more like Arizona."

MOC's objectives are to desensitize the public — and some police — about seeing people walking down the streets with guns around their waists; to demonstrate gun owners are lawful and shouldn't be feared; and to protect themselves.

"It's like wearing a seatbelt or having car insurance," Jeffs said. "It's preventative, it's a precaution and it tends to deter crime."

Doug Holloway of Westland said he thinks he is safer openly carrying his firearm than someone who has a permit for a concealed weapon.

"A criminal will go after the softer target with the concealed pistol," he added.

But Carissa Gaden didn't notice any of the guns strapped around the MOC members as they walked down Nine Mile Road to Woodward. She was out with some students from Ferndale Middle School raising money for the music program. The fundraisers did recall the men donating some pocket change.

"I noticed their bright safety vests and I thought they were construction workers," Gaden said. "If I had seen their guns it would have freaked me out. Anyone with a gun around my children would make me uncomfortable."

MOC members often are challenged by people like Gaden when they gather for picnics or community service projects, Jeffs said. He also walks around armed with a brochure called "You can openly carry a handgun in Michigan" to explain the law.

"Once people learn this is legal they usually are indifferent," Jeffs said. "We've put in thousands of hours of open carry in Michigan to get out the word."

Police said they didn't get any complaints while the MOC members, who were cleaning sidewalks and medians north to Birmingham, were in Ferndale.

"I did expect people to call," Wilson said. "It's fairly common in other parts of the country but you don't see it around here. Part of the justification is you are telling everyone I have a gun and I will use it for protection. Right or wrong it makes sense."

Good to know we have the "support" of our fellow brother or sister gun owners. At least you're not being unreasonable... Never thought there would be a time when I was glad that a fellow gun owner didn't have an ounce of say on how I carry my weapon lawfully.

What a shame certain people fear this government so much that they not only refuse to practice what is a perfectly lawful means to carry their weapons, as shown, time and time and time again, but they take that extra step to criticize those of us who do. Cowards, I can see no other excuse for the shameful attitude towards other gun owners practicing their God given, Constitutionally guaranteed right.

I hope not.

But seriously, I get it. A few folks disagree with OC, that's fine, they don't have to do it. But to go that extra step and constantly, whenever the opportunity presents it's self they've got something negative and nonconstructive to say. We're all pretty much on the same side here right? And the only conclusion that I can come to as to why these people are against OC is the fear of the blow-back. We should not be afraid of doing something that in case after case has been deemed perfectly legal to do.
