I was checking out the open carry .org website and found it a little confusing to navigate. Any way here is my complaint/rant. I was at walmart getting a few things on the honey buy on your way home list. I had on my duty belt and didnt feel like switching to CC so i went in and wnet about my buisness. I did not have a uniform shirt or vest on. About twenty minutes into my shopping some manager came up to me and asked if i had a permit for the weapon. I said ya kinda hard to get one with out it. He thanked me and went on his way. About 20 mins later as i was back near the sporting goods counter hoping to find some of that elusive wwb ammo or any ammo for that matter the Manager and three other employees approched me and informed me that i needed to place my weapon either in my vehicle or surrender it to them untill i finished shopping....needless to say the odds of me handing over my weapon to some 19 year old punk were slim to nothing. I asked him in a polite manner as to were the sign was posted that stated this was a weapon free zone? He replied that in civilized America there is no need for a person to carry a weapon.....I laughed. I then asked him if i look like somebody that is going to cause problems? I pointed out that it was a duty belt and that it was 6am in the morning. I had just gotten out of work and simply needed a few items. But if this was the way i was going to be treated i would gladly take my money to another store. To make a long story short i left my cart of stuff in the middle of the isle and left the store. I went to meijer and got what i needed there. I was also stopped by a manager at Meijer but he spoke with me about my XD and how he had just gotten the service model last week. We chit chated for about 20 mins. I told him about the incident at wal-mart and he just shrugged saying you should have come here first. He also stated that he would never discriminate against a legal citizen exercising there rights to OC. I thanked him and explained how it wasnt even ment as a specific OC thing i was simply getting my stuff on the way home from work. He waited on me at the check out and gave me a 5% LE/Millitary discount!! I thanked him and went on my way.....Needless to say all of my buisness and what little money i have will be going to Meijer instead of wal-mart from here on out.
Here is my thought. Just to piss em off I thought a group could get together at wal-mart in Ionia and OC throughout the store as there is still no signs anywere that state anything about no weapons. Would this be a good idea or do you all think it might just cause more harm then good? The manager at wal-mart would not even begin to listen to me about the laws on OC? so i am not sure if it would be a good idea to OC there with a large group of folks. I mean other then ask us to leave as it is private property i really dont see anything that would be wrong with it, and i would make me feel good.

Contact the store manager, corporate, etc.. Honestly, an idea like this that starts off with "just to piss em off" is not going to advance the 2a cause.

I agree. Out of curiosity does your Meijer in Ionia carry handgun ammunition?

I would suggest contacting corporate and sending them a copy of your receipt from Meijer as well as the full breakdown of what transpired.
The goal is not to piss people off, although sometimes that can be fun it doesn't last.
The goal is to get corporate to TELL THAT MANAGER to keep his BS un-American idea's to himself and follow corporate policy.

See the walmart email below, and follow the link to an audio of a Walmart rep stating the same. They do allow some discretion to the Manager. If you were not told by the manager to do it, I would have asked for one.

Dear Jerry,
The Home Depot Customer Care is in receipt of your email. We appreciate you taking the time to email us. Our general policy is not to ban customers from carrying firearms on the Home Depot property in those states having a concealed firearm law, provided they are carrying the firearm in accordance with the applicable laws.
If the firearm is not concealed in accordance with the carrying permit (typically that means concealed and cannot be seen by members of the public), it is up to the manager based on personal comfort level to approach the individual directly and request them to leave the premises or to contact local law enforcement for purposes of having the individual removed. Thank you for contacting us.
Sincerely,
Ricky

As Venator (so long-windedly) said:
It is the policy of Wal-Mart to obey the laws of the state.
If you'd like to put the manager in his place, you may contact the Manager in an official manner and ask for Wal-Mart's corporate policy on firearms. This forces him to find out, and get it straight.
Alternatively, you can go over his head and complain, because you already know Walmart's corporate policy, and the manager will be reprimanded by his district manager.
