okay...

ive gotten a couple of four knives from my dad and i dont have alot of info on them. two are family 'heirlooms' in that they were my grandfathers but the others ive no info on and my dad doesnt remember a lot of the details and so on and blah blah blah...

heres what im looking at:

my Great-Grandfathers knife from when he was a sheriff in Weakly Co. Tennessee. ive got his colt PPS from 1916 so that ought to set the time frame on this knife:

heres the detail on the bolster. it has bone grip panels

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v155/ltdave/IMG_0431.jpg

it looks like an R, a C and another C. one of the Cs is larger so i dont know if its the predominant intital or not. this is on both sides so im thinking its got to be the brand. there are no markings on the blade...

number 2 is a dagger and sheath:

he says he bought it from a guy at work about 30 years ago but i can remember seeing it when i used to snoop around in his sock drawer earlier than that (79). it looks as if it might be middle eastern. the sheath is a very soft brass and split on one edge. the fit is very very very tight. it certainly seems more ceremonial than utilitarian...

the last he dug out of the garbage. actually he said it was sitting on top of a garbage can so he picked it up. hes sharpened saws and knives and drills for about 55 years so when he says its got good steel in it, he probably knows what hes talking about. the only markings are PAL BRAND with Czechoslovakia on the blade...

does anyone have some light they can shed on these brands or origins? thanks

I'll call the pocket knife a robeson brand the rcc looks familier.

The dagger/ dirk looks to be french not middle eastern due to the fleur de lis patterens on the blade and sheath.

the chech knife looks like a US navy combat knife how long is the blade? does it have a blood grove?

HOW COOL!

thanks for the info on the Robeson. this was my mom's grandfathers knife...

the dagger really doesnt have fleur de lis but it looks more like the oval loop pattern similar to pin striping. im still thinking my dad got this when he was in the navy. he was in Nice France and he was Ismir Turkey along with some other places on his med-cruise...

the czech knife has a 5-7/8" blade. i was thinking it was just some kind of hunting knife...

he has a couple of other knives, one of which my uncle (his oldest brother) carried in europe that i was TOLD was used to take care of a member of the werhmacht at close range. i dont know for certain and he didnt give it to me today...

from the other forum

The folding knife is a daddy barlow. The handle, at least, was made by Robeson Cutlery Co of Rochester & Perry NY.
The pivot pin has been replaced, so the blade is probably not original to it -- which would explain its being unmarked.
A picture of the blade to spring junction with the blade full open would reveal more.

The dagger is European, not Middle Eastern. My first impression based on style was Spain, but closer inspection of the decoration rules that out. Most likely eastern Europe, Baltic region, or possibly Russia.
I just received a new book on knives and swords of that region -- will check in it later.

The hunting knife was made for Utica Knife & Razor Company of (wait for it) Utica NY. Active c1924-1935, after which it became Pal Cutlery Co. NO connection to Utica Cutlery CO. except being in the same city.
The knife was made in Nixdorf, Bohemia on the Czech German border (now called Mikulasovice, Czech Republic, and still exporting cutlery now). Before WWI, Nixdorf was third most important cutlery export center in Europe, following Solingen and Sheffield.

so if you could take the pic that he wants, i'll post it up and hopefully get some more info for you.

hope this is the kind of info you are looking for

actually after looking closer and using a little bit of rust penetrent, the Robeson pocket knife has Robeson and Shuredge on it (in script) so i think the reply is off in that the blade was NOT replaced...

if you would like to relay that info cool, if not, thats cool too...

thanks!
