I am considering purchasing a Knight Extreme .45 cal does anyone have anything good or bad to say about this gun. I own a ML700 currently.

Last I heard Knight was going out of buisness.. Don't know anything about that one. Last year I showed up at Deer Camp with a CVA Kodiak (.45 cal) and got laughed at, kinda sorta. If you want a deer killer go with a .50 cal.... more knock down power. Believe me .50 stuff is easier to get than .45, we're talking Meijers/WallyWorld vs internet/local gun store.

I just looked it up on http://www.sportsmansguide.com/ they are out of that one, but I noticed it's a bolt action.... I got their hunting catolog last week and there is a CVA .50 bolt (If thats what you're looking for) for $130 or $150 or so w/o scope. It's not cammo, but IMO a better gun. CVA comes with a lifetime warranty.

Good luck!

not a whole lot to go wrong, so I wouldn't be worried about parts availibility.

also how many of the knock down people use sabbots and shoot .30 bullets?

if you are getting a deal on the 45, go for it.

after all, the 45-70 is a 45 caliber black powder round, and people usualy don't complain about it's knockdown power.

if 45 isn't enough, why stop at 50? might as well get 54.

Bullet selection is better with the .50

You can shoot most .40 bullets (even a .357) in a .50 cal gun with the sabot selection available now.

Buy right, buy once.

Look at T/C Omega or better yet the Triumph. I own the Omega and its a sub 1 inch gun at 100 all the time, but I like the fact the Triumph brakes open much like a Encore so putting on and taking out primers would not be such a hassel, plus it has the speed breech.

T/C IMO ownes the ML market, there stuff is accurate and customer service is second to none.

I shot Knights before and there great but they just were not nearly as accurate and since there closing there will be no service.

I'd get a 50 cal. I have 3 Knights, 2 older 'Discs' & one Disc 'Extreme'. I really like my Knights & even use the plastic 'jackets' for the primers. A conversion breech plug is available. I have a good supply(plastic jackets) but feel they will be available for a long time. 5 deer in 5 shots last Fall with the Knight.

TC Encore 50cals are awsome- serious 200+ yard shooter with 150grains Triple seven powder.

Here is an accuracy tip. Toss away your plastic sabots, go to the source MMP. Find their website and order some. Too many times in the past bullet manufacturers keep changing the sabots and accuracy would suffer between boxes of bullets. No more problems once I made the switch.

Remember a tight fit in the barrel is a good thing when it comes to muzzle loading.

i have played with ultimates and yes they can and are 500 guns

most normal hunters cannot see 500 yet alone shoot an animal at that range (especaily here in MI)

and RSF is not your average hunter he is the real mcoy

the ultimates are very pricey but then what items that are worth it are not expensive

but the guys are right dont buy cheap guns you will regret it later (hoping the cheap gun will not hurt you) i have seen too many CVA or the winchester omega knock offs blow up)

all 3 of my ML are 200 yard guns
the omega has longest confirmed kill (lazer over 180ish) 2 50gr pellets with 295 gr powerbelt
the 2 encores shoot 2 pellets of 777 with 295 powerbelts or 225 sst but it shoots 6" high at 100 (found out hard way on a nice 6pt) so i went back to the omega and whacked a doe at 180 ish

Now i will say this my omega and encore are/were both 250 yard guns if done right but it takes a lot of practice and good range time with them to find that right combo load

my omega has been bedded, trigger job, great glass. and a lot of range time

the encore was sold off long ago but i kept that omega its a tack driver. with sst in mmp sabots

practice is key and not guess work

laser rangfinders and good glass and good mounts and a good set of shooting sticks really help
