Anybody have a Hi Point C9 for sale, or know of a cheap place to get one? I'm looking for a cheap 9mm to have in the house.

You'd be better off with a machette in the house. Have you fired a HiPoint. They are yuck. there is a reason they are so cheap. Better to keep an eye out for a Ruger 95 in 9mm.. they come up all the time and are about $225-250 used and they feel, look, and operate like a real gun. Just my thoughts...:bounce2:  :bounce2:

I bought mine in March at Silver Bullet in Grand Rapids for $169 including a Galco holster. I don't know if you get over this way at all, but it might be worth checking with them. Unlike the poster above, I love mine and it has been totally reliable.

They are ugly but they work.

Remember the song, "Never make a pretty woman your wife"? Same theory.:wow:

You are getting off buying a quality mil surp in 9X18Mak...like PA-63, CZ-82, etc

Same price range, lot better quality, egronomics, and weight.

hear, hear; just picked up a cz82, a little elbow grease and now it's a thing of beauty, did mention it's just as accurate as my Kimber compact. Bought it for less than $200 as a BUG but now I think I will carry it for my primary. When I get a chance I will post picts in the new gun forum. I highly recommend the CZ82 over the Hi-Point

Go for it!!! If you find one, buy it!!!

I have the C9, CF.380, and the 995. All are reliable, accurate guns. Never had a jam, malfunction, and you can't beat the unconditional warranty. Ugly, Heavy, ETC. But boy can they shoot!

So yeah, my dad purchased his 9mm carbine from dunhams about 2 years ago for $150 on sale. I've shot this gun and love it. I tried to find another one for the same price new only to find them about $250- $300. Durring further homework I went to check Hi-points website, it redirected me to shooting times. There I find an article that shooting times put them up againt kimbers, smiths, springfields, and several others. Each gun rated beter in only one area, but each area was different then the one before it. After this article was published there was a second article listed up the side colum of the page. The article stated that Browning had purched Hi-piont within days of the first article being published, and that was the reason for the price hike. Just an FYI for all these guys saying that these guns are junk.... Do your homework before you talk... and P.S. the one at the military surplus in lapeer has been there for MONTHS. If you take a look at it, its shot to hell and way over priced for a gun that abused. The gun show up in Birch Run is coming up go see Randys they normaly have several different varieties at the same price, but theirs are new.......

WOW what fairy tale magazines are you reading? Browning did not buy Hi-Point.

Parent company of hi-point is Beemiller Inc.

Browning wouldn't buy Hi-Point to being with. They A) serve totally different clientele (as in high end customers) and b) they themselves are owned by FN. So FN would be the one buying them if anybody would

I used to have a C9....I can honestly say that the one I had was JUNK. It jammed almost every other round with various types of ammo. I only buy quality now. I have shot the .40, and it shot pretty good. But the C9 I had was garbage. It would be a good gun if you wanted to pistol-whip somebody ;-)

He's "looking for cheap 9mm for around the house", only reason why he's looking at C9 is because it's cheap.

I'm offering other, better, alternatives that he might not know about.

My brother and I have (3) 995 9mm carbines and one C9 pistol between us and have never - ever had an issue or malfunction of any kind after thousands of rounds fired, (except finding cheap ammo since last November).

The C9 pistols are cheap enough, accurate enough, and more than dependable enough, to buy 2 or 3 and keep them stashed in various locations so you never have all your eggs in one basket. This is something most of us cannot afford to do with Glocks or S&W's. The same can be said of the .40's, I do have friends who own and carry them and they report the same flawless performance.

The .45's are the ones I've heard some bad things about, but mostly of a 'breaking-in' variety complaint than anything on-going. The first 200 rounds can be spotted with a few FTF and FTE. Like most semi-auto's, some fine polishing and edge breaking can smooth out performance.

As mentioned, the Hi Point warranty is rock-solid. I have heard many reports of people sending their firearms back to HP for repair or 'tune-ups' and received back an almost completely new firearm, and they do not drag their feet getting them turned around. They once sent me a free charging bolt, knob and trigger lock (for a 995 bought at auction) within 24 hours and refused to let me pay them. All correspondence has been immediate and courteous, and all accessory orders have been shipped the same day. (No, I do not work for Hi Point - but I'm available :-) ).

I went gun browsing today at two stores. Hi-Points are definitely ugly, no question, but there was a LOT of ugly in those cases.

Not a 9mm, but there was a row of Walther P22s that almost turned my stomach. If I bought based on looks, I may not have many guns. But as it is most people never see it. I love my CPL.

Back on topic, Bob's in Hastings (a long way for the requestor) has used Hi-Points in 9mm, 380 and 40 for $90 to $150 if I remember correctly, with new ones at the usual retail of $149, $139 and $175 repectively.

I read that same review in Shooting Times. I have that issue laying around here somewhere. That article was what had originally perked my interest in Hi-Point pistols.

Well, I picked up a c9 from randy's in gibralter yesterday for $150 + tax. new. I already own a g23 and the C9 is for my girlfriend to shoot beside me at the range. I wanted something she wouldn't have to ever take apart or fix (hi-point has a lifetime warranty). After firing a box of rounds through the pipe, it shoots nice. I was actually impressed. I didn't have any jamming stovepipe problems like some people when they break in the firearm. (I did dry cycle mine a few dozen times though).

I do find that it is heavy for the size, but it fits my hands very well and feels balanced. It is not so heavy that it is a burden to use. The mag capacity sucks (its like 9 rounds), and the mag feels really cheap, and locking it into place is not as smooth as my g23.

Overall, the c9 feels extremely solid alongside my glock, and the factory sights are nice and bright. For $150, I am really happy with my purchase. Would I feel safe using it for personal protection? Absolutely. Do I like my G23 better? Absolutely, but this is a nice bang for the buck. ;-)

Well, I picked up a c9 from randy's in gibralter yesterday for $150 + tax. new.

Welcome to the club!

The C9 may be heavy, but no one's wife/girlfriend has ever complained of the recoil hurting their hands, (the most common reason women avoid firearms). And yes, the factory mags and mag catch/release feel a little too 'simple' when inserting, but I've never had one fall out or fail to function as designed. As for mag capacity, most life & death situations involving a handgun are ended with only 1-3 rounds fired. If yours are the ones being fired (no failures), then you'll stand a good chance of being the one left standing when the smoke clears. Extra factory mags are cheap, HP sells them for about $17 (with fast/free shipping). Pro-Mag is the only aftermarket company I know of thats sells 15rd mags, and 90% of them do not work.

If for some unknown reason your girlfriend decides she's changed her mind and wants something different, (my wife has NEVER done that), you've got an inexpensive 'stash' gun to keep in your vehicle, or the garage, or the barn, or buried in the back yard, should SHTF and you can't get to your more expensive primary piece. There's no way to look at your purchase as a bad investment.
