New to the world of knives (guns too for that matter). Saw this one while looking today. I was wondering if anyone has this model or something like it and cares to give an opinion.

CRKT is a good inexpensive user brand. I'm not a fan of the side openers but that could be a lack of familiarity. Their M-16 series is a good starter knife or Spyderco's endura or delica lines are good too.

Seems kinda gimmicky to me, and it lacks a clear purpose. Why such an abstract design?

Generally when a knife has such a design, its trying to achieve something. Such as, a better locking mechanism, a better/more natural blade release, a larger blade in a smaller handle, lighter weight, etc.

This knife, doesn't seems to have anything its trying to achieve, other than the designer thought knives with finger holes were cool. lol.

Not knocking it, as it looks kinda cool and would be fun to play with.. Just wondering why...?

What are you wanting in a knife? Are you looking for a knife for EDC (every day carry) type tasks (cutting boxes/food/etc) or are you looking for a self defense type blade, or are you looking for just something to ad to the collection? If your looking for an EDC blade or something for your knife collection, then this CRKT Hole In One may be a good choice for you. If your looking for a self defense blade, then I do not think this is a good choice knife.
