Try David Boye's knifemaking book. Probably need to look at e-Bay, as it's been out several years now. Inspired my first knife build.

I built a few as well. One very CRUDE one from a old metal file...
turned out pretty good, and I accidently tempered it correctly! LOL
second one wasn't as lucky. made it too brittle and shattered it.
I tend to like thicker, "pilot" type knives anyway....
its a fun hobby when its snowing...... and the wifes working!
