Well my girlfriend is turning 21 in a few months here. She loves shooting with me; I'm debating buying her a compact semi-auto to carry on her. She plans on getting her CPL when the time comes and I'd like her to be ready for it. Any good sized guns for a girl that you guys recommend? She likes shooting a 9mm, doesn't like the .45 but thinks a .22 is too girly if you get what I mean. She also said the .380 wasn't powerful enough but I think we should stay .380,9mm, and .40? maybe. Anyways, are there any pink guns or something? I remember seeing a Pink Taurus.

Bersa Thunder (heard new ones have issues), Glock 19/26, M&P compact, any 3" .38 +P or .357 mag (can be used with .38)...there's a lot to choose from.
If recoil is an issue stay away from very small guns, especially in .380. Recoil is very stout in the very small and light guns...like the LCP or P3AT. Sunb revolvers are VERY difficult to shoot and the lighter versions also have very stout recoil, even with light .38's.

She doesn't like revolvers. She'd be more into a semi-auto. She says my Taurus 24/7 ProC has too much kick but she hasn't shot it yet. I'm trying to think of what 9mm she used. I almost want to say it was a PM9.

Being of that gender, but a lot older... I would stay away from *pink* because if you should decide to sell it, you would be limiting your buyer base, and IMHO.. I think they are less concealable. That color sticks out like a sore thumb when in hand. The S&Ws are great, very reliable, but if she has an issue with too strong of a trigger pull, you might have her try the new Ruger LCR.
ooops... I was typing and posted this right after your post before mine. so much for revolvers.

I think she'd probably carry it in her purse if anything, so I really wouldn't have to worry about concealing. As for selling it, I doubt I'd have to sell it. It'd probably just become another one of the ongoing collection.

So what you're trying to say is that this is going to just turn into nothing or what? I'm lost.
I understand it's one hell of a pistol and I'm aware of the price tag. I used it as an example as to what type/size of gun she liked to use.
If I want to buy her a 1911 it's up to me or if I want to hand down my PM9. I'm asking for opinions here, not for this to turn into a flame fest

Not a good idea to carry in her purse. Hard to get too and too much of a chance it will be taken from her/stolen.IWB,OWB or pocket carry is a much better choice.

Para Ord PDA in 9mm, sweet shooter but what a price!
Honestly, someone bought me my first carry gun and it fits their hand perfectly.
Get her to a few well-stocked shops, and if she likes one they don't have for range rental, be sure to post here requesting a "tryout" as the folks around here will usually be right generous with theirs!
Best of luck, but a Gun Shop gift card in a car lock-box or special carry purse should go over well!

The $25 includes range time...so not that bad a deal. They also give you $25 off IF you purchase a firearm. (Doesn't have to be that day...just save the receipt.)
Also, you mentioned pink...hehehe...me being the local pink queen have a CZ RAMI (purchased at Double Action for $500) that I got pink pearl grips for. She's real cute looking. I don't carry it much as it's a bit heavy and I prefer to carry my PM9. Which you also mentioned and I like a LOT!

I stopped reading at this post, these are typically the worst guns for females to shoot.
In my experience the M&P Compact has made the most females happy. It is a bit thinner and slightly longer than the Glock 26 and most seem to like that. Easy to reach controls, high capacity, easy to shoot.
To the OP- Get her some instruction from someone who knows what they are doing. Let a gun store employee sell you a gun and she won't be happy, I can almost guarantee it.

You are kidding yourself if you think they made a special gun because so many women were buying them. The Lady Smith line is a marketing ploy and nothing else. "Oooooo, this one has real slim grips and look, it's even named the Lady Smith! I'll take it."
I draw my opinion from watching and teaching a lot of women to shoot. Seems your opinion comes from the name of a gun.

+1 although a little guidance was given. My wife loves her Baby Eagle (Now Jericho's imported by KBI). IIRC they do have a compact version with a 3.5" barrel. My wife's is a semi-compact with a 3.8X" barrel. Very reliable gun. Easy to control.
let see
lousy sights
lousy triggers
limited ammo
recoil
But there small and cute and light thats why retards give them to there wives spouse and store clerks sell them
often my self and TFIN would hand the gun to the so called better half and say ok you shoot it now, then watch in horror on there faces too,
it is by far the worse gun to give a new shooter ....for carry or use
avoid the purse carry get smart carry rig

The grip is fairly small so women with smaller hands can get a better grip than on someof the competitors out there...
But really she needs to try a few as others have said... BC in the end my opinion of the best gun or anyone elses is just that an opinion..

I am 21 and am of small stature.. so I know what it's like to try and find a gun that encompasses ALL of the things that you want. After trying a LOT of different guns, I ended up with the S&W M&P9c. I am so happy with it! It's small enough to conceal (I am waiting for my CPL application to be processed, but I will be carrying on my waist). One of my favorite parts about it is that it comes with an extended magazine, so she could practice shooting with and without the extension!
The Firing Line in Westland has a great supply of new and used guns, and a huge selection of guns to rent. They're pretty reasonable as well. Also, sometimes they have pink range bags in (I have one) in case you would like to surprise her with one

There is also a direct correlation between how small a gun is, and how hard it is to shoot and manipulate. Carry guns need to be small enough to hide, but too small and you greatly reduce your potential effectiveness with it.

I agree. I was just telling my boyfriend that I wish there was a tiny gun that would work equally as well as my M&P9c... That way I would feel better about taking it everywhere and it not being an issue to conceal. Oh well - I guess we can't have everything.

If you find one let me know. My lady loves her M&P9c but wants something else for when she cant conceal in some of her work clothes.
I need to get her some new ideas for carry also. She is pretty stuck with having it at her 3 o'clock and with her petite build it is tough to conceal in anything less than a garbage bag like shirt

My wife has one of the PT111 Pro's (9mm for those that dont know the model), they are(were) offered in .380 to .40 in pink, and the other day I was at Gander in taylor, i could swear they had one in .32 but that had to be a missprint. Every female in my family that my wife has shown it to wants on now, so I dont think selling it would ever be a problem. I nice thing to know about Taurus auto's is that if for some reason a round does not fire, they have what they call 2nd strike capible you simpiliy pull the trigger and it will strike the primer again, no need to manually recock the gun.

I'ts just a "feature" of the gun, yes I(we all) want them to go bang when the trigger is pulled, but if you shoot enuff-once in a blue moon you get a missfire, both factory and reloads. "Old" ammo is the wost a few years ago my f-n-l gave me some 9mm that he has had since he came home from Vietnam I would say that it ran about 15-20% missfires. Even when I was reloading alot we might get one every 2000-2500 rounds, both shotshell and brass. I just saying it does happen.

My Wife carries a Walther PPK/S in .380. The gun is thin enough to conceal but heavy enough to keep the recoil manageable. She also like the S & W 642 with the Crimson Trace Grips. She shoot that quite well putting all the rounds in a paper plate. I saw on the Military channel a range in CA that have female instructors teach women how to shoot and they use PPK/s.
A little history Hitler use a PPK to kill himself. How many Nazis did Glock kill?
