I'd like to get into some of the local competitive shooting in SE MI but with the scarcity and expense of centerfire ammo it seems to me that using .22 conversions on the firearms might be a good idea. Do any of the organizations allow this?

Thanks

I believe that ACTS (http://www.actshooters.com/index.html) has a .22lr class for their shoots. You just can't shoot 22 during thier big once a year competition.

That's good news to hear as ACTS is on my list of events to check out.

Thanks

Depends on the venue. ACTS allows it for the regular monthly matches but not for the annual prize match held in July.

I'm not sure if any others allow it.

Yeap.

It is recommended you bring some full power ammo in an attempt to not get too used to the low recoil 22, plus it is a good way to blow all that gunk out of the rifle if you were shooting 22 all day.

I will say that I've yet to see a 22 run long enough to complete a full day class. You'll probably be cleaning it 4-5 times throughout the day.

That said, 22 trigger time is better than no trigger time.

How many rounds are you guys firing? I can get threw a full brick of Federal bulk .22LR on my RRA with my .22LR conversion without cleaning and the stuff is kinda dirty.

Depends on the class. You're ahead of the game if yours will run a full brick without cleaning.

we've had people shooting 22's at our IDPA club match.. no biggie, they just dont compete for the season standings.
at a club match i dont see anyone busting your balls about it, its better then not shooting at all..

Capital City in Williamston holds PCC (pistol caliber carbine) shoots once a month from Spring to Fall. There's almost always someone shooting a .22.

My Ciener kits (conversion and dedicated) will usually go a brick or more of Fed bulk without cleaning.

I'll be running a .22 conversion kit at my next carbine class...and MAYBE at the next ACTS match. Hopefully I can grab a Glock conversion kit as well and it'll show up at the MDFI classes and ACTS matches as well.

Shooting full power stuff is definitely important...but a lot of excersizes benefit just as well from a .22 kit (or even airsoft) as the normal caliber. I hate rolling through $100 in ammo for a full handgun class, or $50 in ammo just at the range doing some practice.
