I have not been hunting in years and lost my card..

I took the class back in elementry school almost 25 years ago..

Does the DNR keep good enough records so that I can get a new card?

I should just call them and ask but figured I would ask here first.

Yes

I was able to get a new card from The Class I took in 1972

I believe it was Lansing I had to contact.

Hunter Safety contacts who are really nice people....Char (517) 335-3417,
Joe Schalott (517) 322-5348 and Rudy (517) 335-3418 One of these people should be the one to help you out.

Just curious....

What do you need the card for? I took hunters safety some time back but I can't remember ever needing the card for anything.

Technically you probably don't need it. As last time I checked you used to be able to sign an affidavit to the affect that you took the class if born after Jan 1rst 1960. But now they only ask you if you have ever bought a hunting license before.

For a replacement Michigan hunter safety certificate, contact a DNR Operations Service Center (http://www.michigan.gov/dnr/1,1607,7-153--21107--,00.html)or call 517-373-3292.

They should make it a requirement to having to have it in your possession while hunting and having to show it to a
CO upon request.

And before all the naysayers get on their high horse
It's no different than having to possess any other cert or license
and having to show it to johnny law upon request.

I don't think MI gives two shits about their game laws to enact it though
MI is light years behind game laws especially when compared to other states.

But why? 2 wrongs don't make a right.

If hunter's safety is a requirement for your license and you subsequently purchase a license why should you need both documents?

Firearm training is a requirement for a CPL but you don't need your training certificate AND your CPL.

I havent purchased a hunting license since 96.. I figured the store would want to either see my card or old license..

Looks like I am in good shape then.. I will make the call.

If you ever go hunting outside of Michigan, you will need it. I had to get a replacement one before I could buy a Colorado license.

Is there an age limit that doesnt require you to have taken hunters saftey?
Just wondering.

Just purchased my liscense at Walmart yesterday, and the kid didnt ask for anything, except my D.L.
Not even the "have you ever purchased a license before". Took my D.L. and never even made eye contact with me. WTF?

Ya, never mind. Guess so. Just found this in another post.

If you were born before 1960 you dont need a license, but everyone born after does.

I haven't had to show mine in some time. I usually give the lil cutie at walmart my drivers license, she runs it into her fancy little machine and it spits out a license.

Right. Once you are licensed, you don't need to show your card. I have never been asked for mine either. Basically, your license is your 'proof' that you have completed the required safety course.
