Hi, I'm thinking of buying a Remington 1100 or 1187 and have a few questions:

1. The most important is: how much? how much money does it cost for either of them, either in very good condition or new condition?

2. What exactly is the difference between the two?

3. can you adjust the chokes on them?

Thanks in advance for your help, MGO has always been a great source of guns/information :)

I've also been looking. At an 1187 police.

The cheapest I've seen them for is about $425 (Special Purpose or maybe premier) Police are $600+

The 11-87 is a modified 1100. Some of the parts are interchangeable with the 1100.

Chokes would depend on the barrel you can get with and without, or just get another barrel.

For #2

The gas ports on the 1100 and 11-87 are different. The 11-87 can fire 2 3/4 an 3 inch shells if chambered for 3 inch. The 1100 can only fire what it is chambered for, so a 3 inch chamber can only fire a 3 inch shell.

The most significant difference is the redesigned (improved) gas system in the 11-87. I think all 1187's came with choke tubes whereas only later 1100's did.

1187's all shoot 3" loads but you can get a 3" steel barrel for waterfowling with an 1100 with a standard non magnum receiver.

In 1987, the new gas compensated 1187 was introduced. The 1100 and the 1187 are similar in design. Barrels are not interchangeable between these models.

The gas cylinders are welded in slightly different locations. This is partly because the 11-87 has a longer magazine tube. The 11-87 also has 2 gas orifice holes. Only the 2-3/4 inch chambered version of the 1100 will have two. The magnum 1100 barrel has only one.

The 1100 can shoot only 2 3/4" or 3" shells depending on the barrel installed, and with the 1187 models with magnum barrels can shoot both 2 3/4" and 3" shells. To accomplish this, two additional holes are drilled in the top/front of the gas cylinder, and covered with a tempered steel spring. There is a relief cut made into the gas cylinder to accommodate the spring. The Model 1100 gas cylinder will not have the relief cut or the spring.

The Model 11-87 also has a slightly longer barrel extension. This is the part that connects directly into the receiver.

Ooh, very interesting stuff. And VERY quick replies!! This is why I love MGO  So how much more does the 1187 cost compared to the 1100? and what what type should I get if I want to use it for skeet shooting?

There is an 1100 trap edition, but its expensive.
Really, either of them would work, you just need to find whichever one feels best for you.

I tried to bring up the Remington MSRP page, but their whole site is running really slow and timing out.

Ok, thanks! Yeah I just tried their site as well, and it timed out. Don't worry about bringing up the list, I will just try the site occasionally until it works again. Thanks to all for the help, but now I'm thinking I want a O/U ha

I guess I'd better take my 1100 Magnum in for repair, if it's only supposed to fire 3 inch shells cause it shoots 2 3/4 with no problem? LOL:thumbup:

If you where worried about the $$ of a 1100 or 11-87 you`ll freak when you see the price of a comparable quality O/U......

After doing some research.... you're right! I have found $300-350 O/Us, but the reviews on them are sketchy, half love them and half hate them. But the Remington 1100/1187 seem to be good, reliable guns. Plus, I talked to two of the main shooters on the team, and one uses the 1100 and the other uses the 11-87.

You can find standard 1100's and 11-87's for reasonable prices new, but if you look hard, you'll be able to find some really good deals on them used.
