Saw Anita Jackson at the Waco clerk's office today and asked about renewals. Very pleasant lady who IS NOT the reason Waco is having problems.

The new CCW application form was revised in May to reflect the changes in CCW issuance that were recently adopted. The form has a place to check if you are renewing your permit and a place for you to sign indicating that you have completed three hours of training- they WILL NOT be looking for anything else to prove your "continuing education".

Otherwise, the form needs to be filled out and submitted just as if you were applying for the first time. Same fingerprint card, etc. It's $105 for five years and you do need to provide a new picture. Also, retired LEOs and private dicks will NOT get a different card than the rest of us- they will need to carry their credentials if they are looking to enter a CEZ.

My 2 year anniversary is September 11th- I'll probably reapply around that time to allow for plenty of time. Because of the fingerprint requirement, renewals will be batched along with new applications.

They also are NOT looking for letters from your references. The form asks for two references but you can write in the names. (Note- it was the sheriff's office that requested the notarized letters in the first place so this could change). Again, this is for RENEWALS.

And just to make it even easier, the Macomb County Sheriff's Office has a version of the form online that lets your type in your info, and then print it out.

Just a bit more. I was talking to Anita a few weeks ago and she told me that begining July 1 you will take your application to the clerks office first and then get your fingerprints done. This may be a Wayne County only procedure, I don't know, but you should find out when you pick up your application.

The good side of that is that local police agencies, with the exception of townships, will be fingerprinting.

Why do we need another round of fingerprinting? Not only is this a PITA for the applicant, it also increases the workload of those doing the printing, as well as increasing costs. Will they then store BOTH (or all 3, or 5, or 7) copies of my fingerprints together?

I would hope that they only use them for a comparision, then throw away the older set(s). But then again, you're talking about the government here, so anyhting is possible.

When are they going to make the criminals give new prints every couple years?

I thought getting reprinted was a waste of time too.
But it is A good way to prove that the person reapplying
is the same one that applied in the first place.
But a scanned thumb should be enough.

Same way in Livingston County. You have to bring your receipt from the Clerk's office with you (to the Sheriff's office) in order to get your prints done there.
But they are the ONLY place for prints if you're in Livingston County. (no cities or townships doing prints, according to the CC).

I called the Wayne County Clerk's office today to find out how early an applicant can apply prior to their current permit's expiration date.

6 months at the earliest!

They are going to be handling a LOT of temporary permit requests unless they find a way of speeding up their processing, even in light of the State's slowdown (it now takes the State 2-1/2 to 3 months to process the State/Federal level background checks as opposed to about a week).

 :?

Why would you even bother? They'll just take forever to process the temp request and you'll be in the same boat, just with a different paddle.

Legally mandated time requirements mean nothing to WaCo.

Sigster,
Did anyone say anything like, "Oh, by the way, bring your medical records with you".?

Just curious.
