View Full Version : POWER OUTAGES
I heard there's a major blackout in Detroit on Newsradio 950.
In Howell, we lost power for about 1 minute or so and it was restored. Same with my parents in Brighton.

Tecumseh has been out citywide since about 4PM.
CNN reports the Niagra power grid down.
Washington, D.C., New York, Boston, Cleveland are without power.
WLEN reported earlier the entire state of Michigan is down.
By your report that may not be accurate.
Via cell phone friend reported Wayne, Romulus was out and traffic is bumper to bumper near Metro Airport, which had ceased air ops.
Looks like a nice quiet evening for us in my small town. That is after I turn off the generator.
Take care all,

Yeah, it took me an hour to make a 20 minute drive. And 1/2-way through I took the subdivisions to make it quicker!
I love my generator I got in 1999. Used it that summer after a bad storm. Using it now!

Ours in Hillsale County was out for several hours, and then our local utility disconnected from the grid and the power came back on. It sounds like things are getting restored all over now.

Well, I've gone through 1.5 gallons of gas in about 3 hours. 10 more gallons in cans, and then I start siphoning the 35 gallons out of the boat!
Temperature is 72 inside, 80 outside with 71% humidity
Why can't this happen on a cooler night? It's too hot to go looting!
I refilled the generator for another 3 hours and turned off the A/C. For some reason 72 is the lowest I can ever get the house.
But being the "swell guy" that I am, I'm also running the refrigerator of my neighbor.
I wonder if I will get dibs on a future steak or burger? His BBQ's blow into my house and make me hungry!

Hmmm sitting here in my nice air conditioning watching the ole boob tube, I guess I have a few advantages to living in the sticks

We've been okay in the boondocks outside of Romeo. Called my family and offered to put them up but they're going to ride it out. Hang tight, the world will come back to normal.

In Jackson there are people driving from Detroit to find working gas pumps - 60+ cars in line at stations within sight of I-94.
Race weekend might be affected, but
Today I have heard - it just might have been caused by detroit edison workers failing to notice a generator-boiler cooling pump overloading at 2PM yesterday...? They were sent home to get some sleep at 2:30 because they thought it might take all night to fix.
I would hate to think the cascade was caused by inattention to detail in MI.

Lost about 3 hours yesterday but we left for Bay City before I knew what was happening. sat down to eat and saw New york evacuating again. about choked till they said what it was. It looked way to much like two years ago. minus the smoke.
Those folks gotta have a stress level out of this world.

Dearborn Heights is powered again. Came back about 2 hours ago. It was a nice balmy 82 in my house and 69% humidity. My central air is regaining lost ground bit by bit.

Power was back up here at 2:50 p.m.
Thank goodness for my 30+ year old Miller Welder/Generator. Still starts and runs every time. Runs 8 - 10 hours on 6 gallons of gas, and powers whole house and a neighbor or two fridge. We were the only ones lit up last night and watching TV!
Good thing the power came back when it did, as I was getting ready to have to siphon gas out of other vehicles to keep the gen going.
Now to go see the situation at the cabin.

Lost about 3 hours yesterday but we left for Bay City before I knew what was happening. ...
Actually I was up in Bay City when this happened .. was out on one of the ships in the Tall ships Festival .. got a call from a relative wondering where we were ... got home after dark to no power and the clearest and most brightly lit sky I have seen in a long time... man it is amazing what you can see without all those lights... got my power back about 10 am today... I think maybe I should consider that generator purchase soon .. hmmmm?

Here in my part of Livonia we got our power back at 12:30PM yesterday and full water pressure was back this morning.
We have our three grand-daughters staying with us so it was a bit more troublesome but with lots of bottled water, flashlights, propane and food on hand it was no big deal. We managed to fill lots of containers with water before we lost pressure so even flushing the toilet (a big issue with one thirteen year old and two pre teen girls) was no problem.
My power came back online last night. I guess around 12:30AM (32 hours without) when I awoke to the bllissfull sound of silence when my wonderfull neighbor shut down his generator which he thoughtfully put right by my bedroom window. Nope, didnt even offer to power my fridge....Lost everything but my Walleye which is frozen in blocks of ice....

I must admit we didn't have it too bad. We did loose internet access during the outage and the power spike seems to have "let the smoke out"* of my favorite old computer but all in all not a bad time of it.
*All things electronic are fill with smoke. Once the smoke is let out, they don't work anymore
