Rocky to Iraq
Former state House Majority Floor Leader Andrew Raczkowski of Farmington Hills, an Army Reserve captain and the 2002 GOP challenger of U.S. Sen. Carl Levin, is due to leave in late September for a one-year tour of duty in Iraq.
Raczkowski, vice chairman of the Michigan GOP, is mum on his assignment. But military sources say the Arabic-speaking officer will be a special operations civil affairs officer providing backup to the 82nd Airborne Division. That means he will be working with locals to help restore order where there is so much disorder.
Had Raczkowski, who Sunday returned to Michigan from desert training in Nevada with his special operations unit, defeated Levin, ranking Democrat on the Senate Armed Services Committee, he would have been eligible to be exempt from call-up to active duty.
Shame Levin's not going instead....
