Found two articles this weekend dealing with local P.D.'s buying new weapons for their officers. I thought some of you might want to get in on the bidding. Not sure how its done but I figured you might.

Croswell has got the ok to purchase 10 Sig Sauer model 226. this is going to be a purchase by the city that the officers will pay back at a rate of $10 payroll deduction. The chief Dave Hall quoted a price to the council of $800 per gun

Port Huron is Planning on purchasing new Glock .45's. They have 52 officers. included in the purchase are new holsters and utility belt cases.
The department is also looking into purchasing 18 TaserX26 stun guns. The paper says the new equipment comes with a $56,000 price tag.
city manager is Tom Hutka and the possible contact in the P.D. is Maj. James Carmody

the council votes on Monday for the P.H. buy

I don't know about the Sigs but the last time I was at Kurt's place we were talking about Glocks and their pricing and he told me that LEO's can buy Glocks for less than his dealer cost. I don't know how this type of purchase works but it sure knocks the local gun dealers out of the sale. - Bob

It is my understanding that dealers are designated by Glock, and probably other manufacturers, as Law Enforcement Dealers and then fall under a different pricing structure for those type of transactions.

John and Bob are both correct, although I appreciate the heads up Craig!

Most handgun manufacturers designate LEO dealers who work almost exclusively with law enforcement agencies and not with the general public.

Friend who is with a local PD purchased his Glock 27 for $360.00 complete using department letterhead.

I remember speaking with a gun dealer who stated at one time he had a contract with a large PD to supply their Glocks. He ordered crates of them from Glock and paid less than $200.00 each.

A good story or fact, I don't know but it makes you wonder since it doesn't cost that much to make a polymer gun considering the volume that are produced.
