A local radio talk show had a topic today that revolved around "what would you do if someone broke into your home". (It was a tad more involved, but this post is about their reactions, not the details of the topic.)

A handful of callers called in to say the goblin would be staring down the barrel of a gun. Both DJs were surprised that the majority of gun owners would not pull the trigger unless they were physically threatened. The way they kept interchanging the words 'CCW' and 'house' was starting to make it sound like they believed you needed a permit to possess a firearm in your own home.

DJ#1 announced to the Metro Detroit area that he did not have any 'weapons' at his house. But he would certainly jump across the kitchen, grab a butcher knife, and stab & slice the intruder until he were dead.

DJ#2 - who does commercial voice overs for the subdivision he just moved into - also announced he had no firearms or weapons of any kind in his house, but he would be on the phone to the police. They could deal with the guy when they showed up.

[I suppose both DJs just thought the goblin would stand there and allow himself to be cut up, or sit peacefully at the kitchen table and wait for the police.]

As I listened to this on the drive home, I was yelling at the radio one minute, and shaking my head in disbelief and or disgust the next.

I've got to ask .... What radio station were you listening to ?

Yeah, what station? So the DJ's are telling the goblins that they're a easy target. WHAT A BONEHEADED MOVE. I see why they're working at a radio station and not NASA.

WKRK 97.1 ... Dominski & Doyle show. I think it was the 4:30 segment.

I was really kinda surprised ... one of the guys actually took some firearms training and put some time in shooting at a range last year. That - along with discussions about guns and CCW - were common topics around that time.

I caught a portion of that segment.

I was fuming when some idiot actually called in stating that it was OK to shoot anyone to protect PROPERTY while inside your home, but that you could not shoot to protect property outside your home.

I hope for his own sake he does not follow his own advice.
