Metro Detroit crime falls 5%

Decline across four counties in most major crime categories continues six-year trend

By Brad Heath, John Wisely and Ronald J. Hansen / The Detroit News

The number of robberies, stolen cars and other major crimes in Metro Detroit dropped sharply last year, according to figures released Monday by the Michigan State Police.

The 4.9 percent drop in serious crime reports, which extended from Detroit's urban neighborhoods to the region's outermost suburbs, continues at least six years in which crime rates across the four-county region have plummeted. Statewide, the number of major crimes dropped by 3.9 percent.

Police credited the drop to stronger crime-fighting approaches that have led to better cooperation among agencies and to steps meant to help investigators determine where and why crimes happen.

If John Lott's statistics manifest themselves here, we should expect to see an INCREASE in property crime (GTA and such) and a DECREASE in violent personal crime (rape, robbery, etc.). Just thinking back, it seems to me that his statistics show a one year lag time on when crime goes down relative to initiation of shall-issue.

However, Macomb County already had a defacto shall-issue.

What would be REALLY interesting would be to see what is happening in Toledo. John Lott found that shall-issue caused a crime spill-over across state lines where shall-issue had NOT been implemented.

There was a decrease in Detroit because their chief was busy committing his crimes at airports.

Of course the drop in crime rates has nothing to do with the increase in the number armed citizens in the area .... right ?

No .. I'm sure it is because of the changes that Former Chief Oliver made that scared all those criminals to stop committing crimes

Actually about a month or so ago there was a news story on TV where they were saying just that thing.. that violent crimes were down and the Mayor and the Chief were on there saying it was because of improvements "they" had made. Yeah right!

Sad thing is .. the sheeple will believe that load of bull!
