Picked up my 5 yr permit today.. man it feels good. :)
I would have gotten it last month but they denied it at first because they had questions about an incident in my past that happened 20 years ago.. something that wasnt even a misdemeanor .. so I had to go down to the Oct board and after explaining what happened they granted my permit.
They admitted that what they had wouldnt have denied me but they did so intially because they wanted to hear what I had to say.
The board acted like they were doing me a favor.. by granting my permit... geez what a waste of time ... I didnt even wait for my letter.. it was two weeks today so I went down there and asked for it.. they said they sent the letters out but I must not have received it yet.
Now I have it and the streets are a little bit safer. :)

Congrats...... dont you just love how they are doing us a favor???
Congratulations Joel, I know you have been waiting a long time for this.
Just exactly how long did it take? Mine was almost 4 months to the day.
Carry in good health, hope you never have to use it, besides practice of course.

It took a long 9 months .. but I have it now.
Breakdown:
Jan 2003 - Called Sheriff for fingerprint appointment (Cause my city is one of the only ones not fingerprinting it's citizens) and was told April 2nd was the next time.
April 2nd - Printed and application submitted at WACO Clerk
July 9th - Prints cleared Lansing and returned to WACO.
Oct 14th - Permit granted. (After a useless month delay)
But yeah I hope I never need to use my gun in selfdefense but I practice all I can to make sure that if I do.. I will be the one to walk away.

One last thing about this... I had called two weeks after the gun board meeting and found out that the letters had been mailed but that I could go down there and get my permit because it was ready.
Well here we are .. Nov 6th and I still have not received a letter yet... good thing I didnt wait.. I would be so POed.

Did they send you a letter that said you were denied, or did you go to the gun board meeting (expecting to get your permit) and were denied in person (last month)?
Application and prints were done on July 11. After playing ring-around-the-rosie with the Livingston County Sheriff (had to be re-printed, then they stalled a month sending the reprints back to the MSP), I got letter to appear before the Liv gun board a couple of days ago. My "appointment" is scheduled for 11 days from today (Nov 18th).

I originally received a denial letter because of a past offense that didnt end in any charges either misdemeanoer or felony ... so I had to go before the board on Oct 14th .. so I went there.. explained and they granted my permit .. they said I would get another letter saying I was approved and come get my permit .. I still have not received this letter to date. I did call the clerks two weeks after the gun board and they told me they had mailed me a letter and that my permit was ready .. I went down and picked it up.. glad I didnt wait around for that letter which never came.
I know other counties have the people appear before the board for normal approvals .. WACO doesnt do that though .. only if denied.
