View Full Version : WTK: Should I buy a new washing machine?

Guys,

Last night the wife was doing a load of laundry, and the machine quit working a couple of times. It seemed as though the drainage pump wasn't working and it was tripping some sort of high water level? It also seemed to be coupled with the agitator not always starting...

Granted, the replacement cost of a cheap machine nowadays delivered is around $300, I'm figuring repairs to be around $150 (unless I'm totally off base now with cost of getting someone in my house to evaluate and replace a burnt out agitator motor...).

Anyone have any ideas or perhaps a recommendation of a repaire person (oooh! PC!) or if I should just purchase a new washer from? Sounds like a trip out to all the appliance places Best Buy, Costco, Sears is in order... I won't touch Hawthorne's with a 20 foot pole since they're an ABC Warehouse company.

Anyhow, thanks for the advice...

Roz -

Give Brian a call at Homeline. He's on Grand River in Redford and is a good honest man.

He repairs appliances at yor home or in his shop; also sells refurbished appliances with a warranty period.

I don't have any connection with him, but have gone there in the past and he always did an excellent job with fair pricing.

Maybe you can post a message in the "Wanted" section here. Sorry to tell you I just sold a washer & dryer two months ago for $100 each. They were only used for about six months bu my daughter before she got divorced.

I know there's similar deals out there, good luck,

Geo

Geo,

Thanks for the info, I'll give him a call, although the missus is now pushing for a front loader. She says it'll be more economical in the long run due to a more efficient use of electricity and less water. Looks like I'm going to be out $2k on this one... she'll of course want the matching dryer.

I guess I can't complain. She let me bring home a M76 the other day...
