This just in......
Home Depot is about to declare all of their stores
nationwide off limits to your legal right to carry a pistol.
Call Home Depot at (800) 553-3199 and press option 5 for "all other
things." Tell the person you wanted to confirm a rumor you heard that
Home Depot has a no CCW or whatever policy.
Reference case number 868192. Give them your name and
phone number. Or email at consumeraffairs@homedepot.com
<mailto:consumeraffairs@homedepot.com>
Corporate policy on the matter should be reached by the end of the day
today (Tuesday).
Anti-gun Builders Square was a subsidiary of K-Mart, and I stopped shopping
in there, as did thousands of other gun owners, and they went out of
business
inside of one year.
Home Depot has seen the last of my money.

The previous msg has been floating around the InterNet and has shown up in many msg boards, email lists, and a few newsgroups. Latest news is that there is no such policy and that this all started with one store in WI or Minnesota which posted a sign.
Supposedly, the national policy for Home Depot is the opposite and legally carried conceal weapons are no problem at all. We should know more in a day or so.

yes Alex you are correct, I'm glad to report:
HOME DEPOT *ALLOWS* *LEGAL* CONCEALED CARRY
Here's the scoop. This morning we spoke to the person in charge of
ALL Home
Depot's nationwide policy. Every policy must cross his desk to be
approved.
He explicitly told us that:
1. HOME DEPOT does *NOT* prohibit legal concealed carry; in fact, they
consider it to be ridiculous and a public safety hazard. They do not
have
anything in their books on this issue, nor do they plan on putting it
in
their books. If it's legal in your state to carry concealed, you can
carry
in Home Depot, as long as you are following state law. Needless to
say, if
you are trying to have people notice you are carrying and your weapon
is
exposed or you are creating a public nuisance with a gun, you will be
asked
to leave. Corporate realizes that almost all CCW permit holders are
legal
and sane, and they will not discriminate against them.
2. Any store posting against legal concealed carry is VIOLATING
Corporate
Policy -- that is, they are not allowed to post these signs because
there is
no policy providing for a manager to post these signs. If they post
signs
against legal concealed carry, they are acting without Home Depot
authority
and should be reported.
The person who oversees Home Depots operations has given us his direct
office phone number to contact him with any stores that are posted.
If you
know of any Home Depot manager that is currently posting signs
prohibiting
legal concealed carry in their store, please email us with the store
number,
address, phone number, manager's name, and the wording and location
of the
sign(s) so we can let Home Depot know, and those signs will be taken
down

It ain't over yet. I still think that it could be another day or two before we know for sure.

Anti-gun Builders Square was a subsidiary of K-Mart, and I stopped shopping
in there, as did thousands of other gun owners, and they went out of
business
inside of one year.
Builders Square went out of business because of the huge debt they had to service. The parent company went through rapid expansion in an effort to diversify and grow the company. They also owned a bookstore chain that I THINK was sold off (Walden??).
The protest of Builders Square and Kmart by gun owners has little, if not nothing to do with their demise, and will have little or no impact on Home Depot.

Batman's article that he posted is taken from a msg sent out by the following people:
Neal & Melissa Seaman
Neal@DeadBangGuns.com or
skypod@DeadBangGuns.com
Phone: (843) 716-0511
It looks like their original msg was sent out real early Tuesday afternoon, EST, and was sent to a "pro-gun grass roots activist network" from which it was forwarded to various pro-gun email lists. By late afternoon it was starting to appear in the web based msg boards like this one and on the newsgroups.
The idea is that if there is a posted store then "we" are supposed to notify Neal and Melissa (who are the "us") and they will contact the HD administrator directly without having to go through any sort of receptionist. That is my take on that part of their msg.
Well, I am off to Home Depot to see what is on the door.

Yes Walden Books was bought from Kmart by Borders. Borders sure took a hit when they bought them.

Well, I just got my letter from HD.
Hello,
Thank you for your feedback.
The Home Depot has a long-standing policy prohibiting the possession of ALL weapons in its stores. Consistent with that policy, customers are prohibited from carrying firearms in our stores. Where required by local legislation, The Home Depot will install necessary signage to reiterate this policy to all customers.

Liza

My Response:
I'm sorry to hear that. Unfortunately, despite your "long-standing policy", your stores in my area have not installed the necessary signage, as required by local regulation.
Just to pass along information, lawful concealed weapon holders are the most law-abiding citizens in their respective states. The process for obtaining a concealed weapon permit requires extensive background checks at local, state and federal levels and the slightest infraction can be cause for denial or revocation.
What you seem to be failing to realize with your policy is that people intent on causing harm to others do so in violation of the law and will not care about your corporate position on weapons. All your policy does is serve to disarm law-abiding citizens and keep them from being able to protect themselves from the criminals intent on doing them harm. In fact, if you make it known that everybody in your stores is disarmed and defenseless, that pretty much gives a criminal carte blanche to do whatever they want, to whomever they want with no fear of being stopped or challenged.
With that in mind, I do not feel safe shopping at your stores. Since you have made your position perfectly clear, I will no longer be spending my money with Home Depot. Additionally, I will be encouraging all of my family and friends to refrain from shopping at Home Depot, as I fear for their safety.
Also, in case you think I am only one person who can't make a difference to a corporation's bottom line, there are about 80,000,000 gun owners in the United States. I hope you can do without all of them, too.
Please inform me if your policy changes.
Good day.
~Kane Vincent
p.s. K-Mart developed a similar policy a few years ago.

it's HD's right to ban us if they post the signage, it's our right to go elsewhere.
I prefer civil disobidience in most cases. I can't tell YOU what to do, and I would NEVER advocate breaking a law. But I also know what the penalty is for carrying in an area posted as no carry.
I know what I'm going to do.
Unless there is signage Its not my problem. I am not responsible to read their minds. I am not tresspassing unless it is posted. I will carry until I see a sign. My guess----they won't post. They can appease the gun haters with their corporate policy which they won't enforce so as not to peave off another segment of the population. Simple---they can have it both ways! Corporate America at its best! :D :D

Again ---they have it both ways. They have their sign which makes some feel good but the sign is worthless and does not have to be followed by ccw holders!!!!!!!! :D :D

Well, then. Something is wrong somewhere.
At 18:36 today I called Home Depot (800-553-3199) and talked to a person named Jenny. She read me a statement about their no weapons policy. She said weapons can be prohibited on private property. I agreed with her. She went on to say where required by state law, signs will be posted. I asked her if signs were going to be posted in Michigan. She hesitated and said she didn't know. She said she didn't see Michigan on her list. I told her if signs go up in Michigan I would be shopping at Lowe's and never again shop at Home Depot. I went on to tell her that law-abiding people would obey their signs but criminals would not. She agreed with me. I then informed her of all the background checks and training we had to go through. I quess she already knew that because she said, "Yes I know."
I thanked her for reading me their policy and for listening to me. She then asked me for my phone number and address to add, as she said, "to the others that disagree with this policy." I happily gave her the infomation.
More people should call to get on their "disagree list".

I personally think you should tape it to a 4x4 post at the end of a range and try out that new little toy you have.
Then I'd carefully take the card off the post and mail it to HD's HQ politely voicing your displeasure with the policy and asking them to cancel your account.
Then we need to get th NASCAR fans involved and let them all know that Tony Stewart's sponsor is anti...I just find it another good reason to back the Roush teams!!

Weather they post sinage or not, I will never go there again. Lowes is only a 1/2 mile farther. Buh-Bye Home Depot!!!!
My reply to them...
Dear Home Depot,
Thank you for your reply, it is duly noted that you don't care about your customers safety.
I also have a long standing policy prohibiting my money from getting into the hands of anti-CCW companies.
Consistent with my policy, and effective immediately, I will never step foot in any of your stores ever again.
Also, I will as my new pet project, actively spread the word to everyone I can about your policy, and urge them
to boycott your company as well. So go ahead and post your signage banning all weapons in your stores and have fun
watching your revenue drop like a rock. Bye-Bye Home Depot, Hello Lowes.

They probably dont even know what a can of worms they have opened.
