If you do not like the provision in your contract forcing you to get your prescriptions through mail order please support this. Estimates are that your locally owned pharmacy is going to suffer a 30 to 40 percent reduction in sales because of the impact of the UAW contract.

Dear Valued Customer,
As you know on January 1, 2004 new contract provisions went into effect that will have an impact on your prescription benefits. On January 22, 2004 a package of five bills was introduced to the Michigan House of Representatives. This package is designed to allow customers to pay the same low prices for long term prescriptions at local pharmacies and mail-order suppliers. Known collectively as the Consumer Prescription Protection Act (CPPA), the legislation also ensures that employer costs do not increase. The legislation was introduced by Reps. Gary Newell, R-Hastings, and Scott Hummel, R-Dewitt. This package of bills would level the playing field for retail pharmacists in the state of Michigan while keeping retail sales and revenues in the state.
******** has been active early on in the process with involvement with the MPA, NACDS and the Coalition for Quality Healthcare. ******* will continue to support the MPA in these efforts.
What can you do as a retail pharmacist to support the legislative efforts? ******** supports the utilization of the MPA web site www.michiganpharmacists.org to keep informed, print bag stuffers, counter signs and brochures to inform your UAW customers. The MPA web site as well as the Coalition for Quality Healthcare www.pharmacychoices.org have links to your local legislators. We encourage you to write your congressman on these issues and encourage your customers to do the same.
We look forward to seeing you at the MPA meeting the week of 2/23/04.
