Well, they attached the AWB renewal and the closing of the gunshow loophole.
We gotta put this thing out of our missery. I hope it gets killed, post haste.
The AWB and Gun show bans passed 52-47 and 53-46 on a mostly party line vote. Carl Lenin and Debbie Stabmenow voted anti-freedom on BOTH measures.
This was a party line vote for the most part.
Dems who voted NO on AWB are
Baucus, Miller, Feingold, Landrieu, Ben Nelson, Reid.
RINOs who voted YES on AWB are
Chafee, Collins. DeWine, Fitzgerald, Gregg, Lugar, Smith, Snowe, Voinovich, Warner
Dems voting NO on gun show ban are
Baucus, Miller, Nelson,
RINO's voting YES on Gun show ban are
Chafee, DeWine, Fitzgerald, Hagel, Lugar, McCain, Voinovich, Warner
Tim Johnson of South Dakota did not vote on either.
Once again - Lenin and Stabusall are bad for freedom.
BTW - Five things can happen. Four of them good.
The bill could be voted down overall.
This could go to conference committee and and bad parts die there.
This could go to conference committee, and a compromise bill with either AWB, gun show ban, or both coming out of there back to the house, and bad stuff is voted out there.
The bad stuff happens, Bush vetos it.
The bad stuff passes, and Bush signs it.

Thanks for the 'silver lining', Dan. That's all we got right now.
Unfortunately, I have a feeling that Bush Jr. isn't going to veto this thing if it shows up.
According to MSNBC News, it passed the Senate.

The AMENDMENTS have passed the Senate, but they have killed the bill. The Senate is voting on S 1805 as amended and it looks to be going down to rousing defeat.
Senator Craig had got up to say that the House bill was clean; that the Senate bill would not get through conference committee and that it should be voted down.
Looks like that is just what's happening. It just went down by a vote of 8 - 90.

The bill was killed in the senate
Yup. Dead. But this leaves the spectre that there is enough support out there that the AWB may get extended elsewhere.
Oh, John Kerry, Debbie Stabenow, and Carl LEnin all voted for Ted Kennedy's .30-30 "armor piercing bullet" ban.
This includes any centerfire ammo as well. If the AG says it's bad, it's banned.

With the large number of anti-gun stuff tacked on to 1805 it is a relief to see that it was soundly defeated. The vote was 90-8. The bad news, though, is that in so doing antis have defeated the gun manufacturer's protection bill. This is bad. GOA is reporting:
Today's vote makes it very difficult for a pro-gun senator to offer this bill as an amendment to another bill. After all, anti-gunners can demand that any provision to protect the gun industry now be offered as a "package" with the anti-gun amendments that were attached to the bill over the last couple of days.
Amendments successfully added were:
Lock Up Your Safety Requirement, passed 70-27.
Feinstein Semi-auto Ban, The Senate voted 52-47
McCain Gun Show Ban, passed 53-47.
Ammunition Restriction Study, passed the Senate 85-12.
I am glad to see that it was defeated. I apologize if I confused the issue with my earlier post, this in one instance where I am glad I ws mistaken.

I think we as Americans need to get rolling and destroy the socialists and make this a free America once again.
SEND EM PACKING
I voted for Rocky last time. I'll be voting for Stabmenow's opponent in 06, and I sure as hell am not voting for the Communist John Kerry.

Send them packing may be a little hard to do in Michigan. Michigan is a strong labor union state. Democrats (socialists) are voted into office time after time because of dead from the neck up union members. Union leaders just have to say four words, "for the working family" and dead from the neck up members vote for whomever they are told to vote for. They never check out a candidate for what they stand for or their voting record.
Too many are only interested in a paycheck and a "watering hole" to spend it in.
The sad part is that most UAW members I know own guns and love to hunt and they don't know or care that the Democrats they vote for will take away their guns and end hunting.
Before I retired, I would talk to some of them promoting gun friendly candidates. Their logic was, "If I don't have a job, I can't buy guns or ammo for hunting." My responce was that when guns are illegal you can't buy guns and ammo so you can't hunt so you better start looking for another sport.
A few, but not enough union members do think for themselves. But certainly not enough of them.
Oh, I did have a talk with my cousin, a teamster, who always votes for Democrats. He owns guns and hunts. He voted AGAINST Genny for governor. One more on our side.

OneShot,
Your overly broad and absolute statements about union members are OUT OF LINE! I think you owe me, Autumluvr, her husband, and all the active and retired union, (especially UAW,) members of this board an apology or retraction. Only late in your message did you slightly redeem yourself:
A few, but not enough union members do think for themselves. But certainly not enough of them.A majority of the people I used to work with, both union and non-union, could, and did, think for themselves.

Take it easy Roger I am also union and I found no offence in what oneshot was saying . I had to get abrupt with my union to get them to quit calling me and what not about supporting their dumbocrat canidate.
I know that there are a lot of union members on these boards and the union members here are the thinking ones.
OneShot was just expressing his opinion.
I do not believe anyone should have to apologize for having an opinoin.
If some one has an opinion that I dont agree with I will talk to them and try to find why they have that opinion but I will never ask anyone th apologize for expessing their opinion.
You have your opinions I have mine and one shot has his and I amsure there many more opinions here also.
But you know what they say about opinions ?
Opinions are like a$$ holes everyone has one and they all stink.

I don't believe what he stated was that negative, either. I have been in the UAW for 25 years and have never voted for a democrat. But, I know some guys, with guns, who vote demoncratic almost or all the time. So, some can and a lot cannot think for themselves. That's just the way the ball bounces.
As he stated,"But certainly not enough of them." There are never enough of them to vote with us. That is true.
Having been a member of the UFCBW, I have to admit what Oneshot mentioned was definitely visible in that union.
As has been previously mentioned, everyone's got an opinion, and a right to mention what it is...

Lots of sheep in my union too.
I've been in the same union for the past twenty-five years, an offshoot of the AFL-CIO, (they have their own anti agenda).
As long as a democrat is running that's all that matters.
That's who your told to vote for.
My local's president is a self proclaimed liberal whom has convinced himself that the dem's aren't out to take anyones guns away.
It's like having a discussion with a rock.
It's true, a lot of my fellow union members aren't capable of thinking for themselves.

Did anyone catch Kerry's comments after the bill went down in flames?
Gotta keep them assault rifles out of the hands of criminals you know.

Roger,
For your information, I am and have been a UAW member for 43 years. What I stated in my last post are the facts as I seen them at GM Willow Run Plant in Ypsilanti. I therefore make no retraction or apologies to anyone.
I have friends that work at other auto plants and they say it is the same way in their plant. Vote the party line because union bosses tell them it will save their jobs.
What burns me are the union members that love guns and love to hunt and vote for gun grabbers.

I worked a GM Willow Run for 15 years and everyone I know voted for the Dems. (you want to keep your job don't you) I voted for them my self for many years had friends that helped guard Clinton at some of his speeches  . But most of the people I knew were "thinkers" thay just wanted to keep there jobs and really did not have any other skills to get a job out side the factory. I left GM in 1993 when it closed and it is a tuff world out there but I love my guns.
