One reason this idea doesn't go anywhere is the politicians have no plan for what to do with the millions of people who are employed as a result of our monstous tax system.
What would happen to all of the folks at the IRS, H&R Block and thousands of other tax prep services, tax attorneys, ect?
I think it's a great plan and could care less if the IRS was shut down, but the un-employment that will result is one of the big concerns our Reps have to deal with.

I think Flat Tax would be better than this Sales Tax scheme.

They could model it after MI's tax system. That system must be doing something right because for the past three years, my tax return at the end of the year has been no more then ±$1 of my withholding.

I would much rather a flat tax as well. Most of the rest of the world has some sort of income tax AND a national sales tax (VAT and so forth) too.

I can see the polititions chomping at the bit; eliminate the income tax, get a national sales tax in place, THEN reinstate the income tax cause the sales tax just isn't enough.

I don't mind paying tax (well of course I do!, but I know we need to do it), I think it should be a fair tax system.

The reason the Flat Tax wouldn't fly is because in order for the 'gubmint to have the same income it has now, the tax would have to be set at an outrageous level (like 50%). :? How would you market that?

it's a dumb idea. all it would do is create a massive black market.

for all those who think your taxes go the the government to pay for things, think again. they go to the fed to pay interest on the debt. this is why the whores in whoreshington have no desire to cut spending.
