Let me remind you that it was a conservative republican who stabbed us in the back in '95 over the original Cropsey bill, Jim Ryan, and a Dem who we helped elect in "96 who did help us get PA381 passed, Bob Brown. We have to do something to get a couple of people elected in order to gain some credibility! The dark side isn't going to do it! With the old org there was some credibility and fear of us in Lansing. Now the gun rights groups are a joke.

I usually don't support the Dems, but remember that the National Democratic Committee has gotten a LOT of pushback on the anti-gun platform from their local politicians. There has been a grassroots rebellion against the DNC forcefeeding a gun-control agenda outside CA, NY, NJ, MA, etc. Lets face it folks - if not for the UAW would MI really vote Democratic as much as it does? How many union members own guns or hunt? They don't all support the national DNC platform, but many vote as the union suggests anyway.
At the US Senator level they can play the gun-ban card and win, but within their local districts for Congress and Statehouse the pols realize that the 'real people' do NOT want gun rights restricted. Apart from Boxer, Pelosi, Schumer, Corzine, Kennedy, Clinton, and the other usual suspects the Demo party has been much quieter on this issue the last few years. Al Gore acknowledged himself that his anti-gun stance cost him at least 1-4 smaller electoral states, that kinda matters when you lose by 1 vote.
If your local candidate is a 2A supporter and otherwise solid then I can't say the usual Demo stereotypes always apply. Of course politics is politics and he may get strongarmed into voting the party line anyway depending on circumstances. Can't trust any of 'em unfortunately.
One major key here - Darryl Husk is the GOP nominee for this seat. He has an uncontested primary.
That means unless there is a key local GOP primary race in E. Livonia, Redford, or Northern D. Heights, the only major contest is the democrat primary for state rep.
Gun owning Republicans can vote for Dowdy in August at no penalty then.
