Wow.. this is just downright outrageous! If court records show the comments made by the agency and by the Judge to have actually occurred... that's a death sentence right there.

In all likelihood, it's a non-reprimand letter from the AG and a toothless request to not do it again

Gun Control Icon Defends Second Amendment Rights of Grandparents Targeted in Michigan

UCLA law professor—and go-to gun control commentator—Adam Winkler is speaking up on behalf of grandparents who were allegedly put in the position of choosing between foster-parenting their grandson or keeping their Second Amendment rights.

The case is unfolding in Michigan and revolves around William and Jill Johnson’s efforts to care for their grandson.

On July 18 Breitbart News reported that the Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) filed suit against the head of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services over alleged violations of the Johnson’s gun rights. William Johnson claims the case worker said, “If you want to care for your grandson you will have to give up some of your constitutional rights.”

SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb told Breitbart News that this sacrifice of Second Amendment rights would include having “no guns for self-protection at home or carried on one’s person.”

Now the New York Times is covering the case, which they summarize by reporting, “Mr. Johnson and his wife, Jill, are suing their home state, Michigan, which bars foster parents from carrying concealed weapons. At issue is whether the state’s rules amount to a ‘functional ban’ on owning a firearm, in violation of the Constitution’s Second Amendment.”

They indicate that William Johnson says he had to forfeit his carry gun “under duress” in order to satisfy the requirements for foster care.

Seems to me that means however you have them stored is OK.
We've been dealing with them since last year. To be a licensed foster parent they want guns and ammo stored separately with ammo locked up. We don't want to be licensed foster parents, it's our nephew.. We don't want the state check or their intrusion.

We had issues with them wanting registrations and specific info on all guns. They were fine with how I have them stored.

Just got word that my wife will be picking up the little one Friday finally. The director of DHHS had her fill out a new form yesterday about her life's history. How she feels about religion, her personality etc. It was really odd but whatever. Now that step one is done she has to go back to the classes if she decides to get licensed. If she gets licensed she either argues against the unlawful requests or ignores them (Ive posted all the details about that in the other thread). In alot of ways its not worth it to get licensed at this point.

The child was placed in foster care in December. Almost 9 months later and countless amounts of paperwork, court appearances, and home visits, she finally has a firm date. Im convinced the only reason its happened is because the child was injured by another child in the foster care home and the parents had their lawyer get involved.
