Hi! I've been thinking about getting my own rifle for a while now, and a few online friends sharing pics of their collection & gun articles in general has finally gotten me to the point of looking into it seriously while I save up.
Gun experience: I was Active Duty Army for 3 years (2000-2003) and Army Reserves for about 3 years (2004-2007), so I had an M16 to tote about, clean often, and sometimes go to the range. Never had to shoot anyone while deployed though. I just missed being issued an M4, only had the heavy M16 while I was in. So, it's been a few years and I have never had a civilian weapon, so a bit of learning to do!
I want to get an M4 size AR-15, since I have that M16 experience already. Long range shooting competitions sound fun, but I realize that I would need a separate rifle for that.
So far I've picked up a few (reading-type) magazines, checked out a few websites, and found this fine forum. Looking through the advertisements, I'm already coming up with a dream-build. But I'm sure starting off with a used rifle is probably a faster plan than saving up for a pile of fancy parts. Ha ha, already thinking of getting 3 rifles and I'm not even ready to get the first one yet!
BTW, reading some of the forum posts last night, I have a question... the Michigan law definition of what a "pistol" is by length, does a M4-size AR-15 with collapsible butt stock count as a pistol (need to be registered) or not?
