No 2017 firearm opening day deer thread?

I know it was a nasty, rainy, wet mess on the West side but someone out there has to have a success story or some pictures to post about their opening day...

Ill start: Work interference with opening day and my typical desire to just make sure my freezer is full by the end of the season typically means I don’t wait for trophies, but I had yesterday off work and managed to tough out the rain. Just after noon this compact 8 point walked right in front of me and gave me a broadside shot. The Ithaca 87 barked and the Leightfield Hybreed EXP dropped him in his tracks. While not the trophy of a lifetime, I’ll finally have antlers on the wall and venison to start filling the freezer.

I hope the rest of the season goes as well, good luck to you all and hunt SAFE!

Looks like it was a good shot too. Congrats
I'll be out hunting tomorrow to see if anything is left.

    Going up this afternoon.

Had a couple of judges try to schedule hearings this week. My response was, "Your Honor, I'm scheduled to volunteer for a state-sponsored wildlife management program those days and will be out of town." A couple got it but most gave me blank stares and said ok.

Winchester 94AE with hornaday lever evolution at slightly less than 50 yards from an elevated blind. I really like thE bullet, last 3 deer I've shot have been with this combo. There so much blood because the heart literally exploded. It was mush.

Got very fortunate that the buck walked out of the woods following a doe at 7:41 am opening morning

Had a great opening day in Capac, courtesy of a friend. We had 20+ deer in the field all morning, bucks chasing does. At least 5 different bucks in out of the field. Buddy says 7 and he was closer to most of the action.

One tall 6 point was locked onto a hot doe, mounted her 3 times. They were the last deer to leave the field @ 9:45, my buddy dropped him at 50yds.

I just finished skinning and quartering him. He doesn't eat venison! Lol

19 does in the rain for the evening hunt.

Going back out at least one day this weekend.

    Congrats OP and Preacherboy!

My uncle shot a nine yesterday, yet to see it.

Dad shot a eight/nine this morning. Short tined, decent size deer.

I'll get a picture of at least my dads.

I haven't been in a few years. Kind of lost interest.
