Anyone hunt with a handgun? Looking for info on Sights

I'm thinking about using a handgun to hunt some game next year.

I'll start with small game and possibly work up to deer.

Range would be way less than 100 yds, probably 50-60 yds max.

Any advice on sights for an autoloader handgun?

I was thinking about night sights with adjustable rears or possibly a holographic-type sight like a Fast Fire or Optima.

Thanks in advance

I have killed about a half dozen deer with a .44mag, one with a .357, and one with a 45-70. The .44 and .357 were revolvers, the 45-70 a single shot Encore.
I would suggest for deer you use the biggest caliber you can shoot accurately, stay within a reasonable range, and practice lots.

theoretically speaking, you can kill a deer with a VERY well placed shot from a .22. However, it is not fair to the deer to try it. I have not hunted with a pistol yet. I might try it with my .40 next year, for very close shots, say, 10-25 yards. My step father takes along his .44 mag every year. Two years he dropped a very nice 8 point at about 15-20 ft.

.44 mag is what i use on occasion depends on what stand i am using. It has been very effective for me in the past.

Thanks for the replys, but I was looking for information on sights for an autoloader handgun. I will be using a G20. I have the stock setup on my MKIII Target, which works well. For those who don't know the stock set upon the MKIII Target is a high-viz front sight and an adjustable notched rear sight.

This is why I thought some adjustable night sights would work for the G20.

Any thoughts on sights? Sould I go night sights (i.e. iron sights) or holographic/red dot (i.e. Burris Fast Fire, Optima, etc.)?

@15-20 feet-not long.

Use the best sights you can afford. Blade seems to work best for me. Range time is great help. Short range shots are possible. Any shot (357++) in the lungs is a dead deer. Use the selected sights w/ paper plate target. Thats about the size of deer lungs.

lol.....i missed a word... two years ago he killed a nice 8 pt. with his .44 mag. No it wasnt a long shot, but he was no sniper, and wasnt willing to start training that particular day. It would just be differant to take a deer with a pistol when it is at a close range.

By the way, he didnt track it, it fell in its tracks.
