i have been thinking about maybe doing some pistol shooting competitions. i feel it would be a lot of fun and good training, i am somewhat of a beginner with a pistol and have a lot to learn so my question is what types of leagues or ranges have competitions for competitors at my skill level and experience?

any suggestions would help a whole lot, thank you very much!

I suggest that you start by looking into IDPA shooting. There are lots of clubs in MI offering this style of shooting, you can generally use a pistol you already own and it's inexpensive.

Go to IDPA.com... click on club info.... then click on Michigan and you will find a listing of all the clubs in the state and information about their programs. And links to the individual clubs www sites.

Many offer introductory shooting in the evenings, one night a week, to "break in" new shooter and to help them start out safely.

Good luck... you'll love it.

Yes - they have a shoot once a year in Michigan, in Brighton. It happens to be this coming weekend. (Aug 7-8 ).

More info on that at http://gssfonline.com.

I try to get the most bang for my buck when I go, so I shoot multiple categories. With your G19 you could shoot Amateur Civilian, Competition, Stock, and Unlimited.

If you're not sure, just sign up for one class. If you like it you can go sign up for more. Show up early so there's enough time. Just bring enough ammo.

As far as other gear goes, I would recommend getting something to carry spare mags in. I went two years fishing out of pockets before getting a mag carrier on my belt.

MUCH better pulling from that.
