Can anybody tell if it is legal for me to saw off the barrel of an old shotgun?
I know there are length requirements to be followed but can I do it myself?

Dont see why not as long as you meet the length requirements ...

As long as you leave it over 18", you can do whatever you want with it.

Just to be on the safe side, I'd make sure that I was at least 1/8 inch over. Makes it hard for a Anti LEO or prosecutor to try to charge you.

Excellent advice, Karcent and Jeff. Better safe than sorry. Remember Randy Weaver, that whole fiasco started with a "too short" shotgun barell.
