Are you looking to be super competitive in IDPA? I ask because you will find most serious competitors wear holsters that aren't the greatest concealment holsters. Funny, I know since IDPA is supposed to be all self defense oriented and junk but that is just how it is. Probably the two most popular holster companies for IDPA, at least what I see, are Comp-tac (http://www.comp-tac.com) and Blade-tech (http://www.blade-tech.com). Straight drop holsters (no can't) kydex holsters from either companies would be excellent competition holsters. Both companies make mag carriers too.

Now if you are looking for something to make it a bit easier to conceal your choices seem just about endless. I'm a big fan of Kydex though many prefer leather. A bit of forward cant can help conceal the grip of a firearm. Inside the waistband is a viable option too. As far as brands go, jeez, take your pick. Many people here on MGO won't shut up about Raven Concealment (http://www.ravenconcealment.com) holsters. I haven't gotten to poke at one yet but they sure look nice. Looks like their Phantom holster can be worn on the belt or inside the waistband depending on what loops you are using. Gotta love options. I believe Tom Fineis (member here) is affiliated with them if you want to contact him about your needs.

Comp-tac mentioned above make good inside the waistband holsters too. They have their MTAC which are nice as well as a few other models. If you are looking for cheap, you can always go for an Uncle Mike's kydex paddle holster. I see them around for $20. Oh, forgot about Safariland. I see a fair amount of their stuff at competitions.

Oh heck, here's the 2009 equipment survey for the 2009 IDPA nationals. Should give you an idea of the variety of gear used.

I use a Fobus paddle holster and mag carrier for my RIA 1911 for IDPA. I haven't tried to carry the 1911 since it is a little big for my body type.
