I am interested in an M-4 upper, any suggestions where to purchase a complete upper receiver. It seems as though the web sites for Bushmaster, Armalite, and the other manufacturers list suggested retail prices.

Any suggestions on sources or short of a special, is the pricing on those sites as good as it gets.

Thanks

I ordered an M-4 kit from Model1Sales. I haven't received it yet but from what I've heard they make real nice Uppers.

The whole kit was 450.00 and with the Lower I bought from Kurt.

I'll have me an M-4 for about 575.00. With all that evil AWB stuff on it.

It's really for my Grandson Adam Richard, I call him "AR" but since he's only 4 months old I'll take care of it for him till he's big enough to shoot it.

What would it take to convert my Olympic "Plinker" into an M-4 clone? I see that I can simply buy a collapsible buttstock from Model1 Sales but the barrel options have me a bit perplexed. Is there anyway to get close with my existing heavy barrel?

A true "M4" style carbine will have a reduced diameter section of barrel behind the front sight and in front of the handguard. The reason for this barrel profile is for the attachement of a grenade launcher. It's the main difference between the M4 and any other carbine.

All this talk of new uppers...

You'll obviously need a Bagmaster 28" or 35" Upper Case from the world renowned StraightShot Shooting, too.

Tactical Cases link. (http://home.comcast.net/~ccwinstructor/tactical_weapons.htm) (Lower right of the page.)

Take a kid shooting.

One other thing I just noticed from your photo, you will also need a flat top upper receiver. M4s are flat toped with either an ACOG or AimPoint optic. No fixed rifle sights.

So I can pick up a new barrel for $170. and a collapsible stock for $48 and It would look pretty close.

On the other hand, I could go for the LE look simply be getting an LE stock for $50. and a flashider. What's involved in getting the barrel threaded and a flashider installed? Karcent, can you do the work? I'd have to disassemble the barrel and chase the threads in the lathe with no tools for an AR. Also, what's a "reverse flashider"? Is that where the most of the flashider slips over the barrel so as not to add unnecessary length? Thanx.

No, I don't have a lathe. You would need an AR barrel wrench to dis-assemble the upper. You can make one if you're handy.
