Hi all need help in finding a one piece base to mount a scope on my 243. Its a Remington model 788. It's an older gun and only has 3 tapped holes for the base. Cabelas and Johnsons do not have one. Only other alternative is to drill and tap a 4th hole but would like to do so only as a last resort. Any help would be appriciated. Thanks

Jim,

Sorry I cant help with Your scope base dilema, but I saw You mention "Johnsons" and was curious.

Are You in Lenawee county or is there another Johnsons in Michigan?

Just wondered as I grew up in Adrian.

The Weaver base reference chart says that the Remington 788 uses a two piece base the front base is a #75 and the rear is a #76 a 1 piece base is not available for a 788.. But only 3 holes has me puzzled . Is it poss that there is another hole under the rear sight ? are you sure it is a 788?

First off Thanks for the info on Brownells, Dale I am ordering as I type this.
MI Redneck I'm in Washtenaw co.
45 acp The 3 holes puzzles everyone who looks at it and I usually have alot of talking to do to get others to believe that it only was tapped with 3 holes.
Again thanks to all for the help.

The 788 receiver is not a 'mauser' style (open bridge) but rather a tube. There is no need for a two piece base and I don't think one was ever made for it. The one piece mount sets up very solidly with three screws.
