I'm hoping to get started in High Power next spring. Figure Washtenaw is the best place for me to go since it has the 600 yard range and is only about 30-40 minutes away.

Anybody here shoot High Power at WSC who would take a beginner rifleman under their wing?

I'm a memeber at WSC and used to shoot High Power when I had time. Contact the high power chair at:
hipower@wsclub.org
He'll be able to get you moving in the right direction.

BWSA has a 600 yard range as well. They also have a Hi-Po league. Depending upon where you live it might be an option.

All good advice, but the SAFS (Small Arms Firing School) at Camp Perry isn't run by the Marines. It's put on by the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit. I went through it this past summer and it is superb. It cost $40 and it includes ammo for practice and a match. Rifles (genuine M-16's with the burst sear removed) are provided.

Although a Marine won the President's 100 (Gunny Fuchs), the Army dominated this year's National Matches.
