I've had it for about a month now, still works using the electronic combo.

I'm not special enough to post URLs, so here is the manual link with a space inbetween the /:
harborfreight.com / 9-inch-x-6-inch-x-6-inch-digital-safe-94985.html

I am actually going to install this in my vehicle, when I eventually get my CCW (come on Macomb!).

I purchased a similar safe that could be bolted to the studs and involves a password and key system. I've found it's just easier to keep the key in it and simply type in the password rather than having to fumble for a key+password.

Isn't the key just for alternate access? say the battery dies or something?

At least he knows were the key is.

looks like a good decoy to toss some cheap crap into, then just hide the good stuff

Agreed, but at 9x6x6 it would probably just be easier to carry the good stuff at all times!

I like it. Just curious what is the outside dimensions? Thanks.

From a review at HF
"This is a great little safe for a handgun. The only problem I had was that it beeped when the buttons are pressed. Not very good if you don't want to alert an intruder you are going for a gun! Easy fix if your handy with a soldering iron, just de-solder the beeper on the circuit board and through it away"

I hope there's room enough for your most prized possession.

Only if I cut it into small pieces, but that will never happen. That hat will be worth big money some day. After all, I'm sure it was a limited edition.

I'm going to Fruitport Conservation Club today with some friends for some fun shooting. I'm going to wear that hat and try not to laugh while doing so.

Wish me luck.

I agree with this.... In my experience HF stuff lasts about 3 days most cases .... Maybe 4 if you dont use it at all....

I buy some stuff at HF. Mainly throw-away stuff. They have, or had, a digital multimeter, that seems (seemed?) pretty good, for cheap (about $50, IIRC) that I bought to keep on the boat. I think that's the most expensive thing I've ever bought there and the only thing I've ever bought I hope and expect to work, and keep working.

As for the safe: I would worry that I'd lock something important in it and it subsequently wouldn't open. I think I'll pass.

This is what I was thinking, you think that you're getting a good buy then you spend a day tearing things apart tring to get it open.

How would this work as a bedside lockup just to keep it away from curious hands and still allow for bump-in-the-night access? The real safe is for theft protection...

I have one of those and actually use it. It's not huge, but it works just fine and has for over a year. It has a key backup in case the battery fails or the thing just dies. I use the keypad at least once a day, and have never had any issues.

Eventually, I'll be using if for a decoy safe, because I got a bigger fireproof one for my valuables, but it's not because the safe is bad.

YMMV,

Good cheap alternative to expensive type safes.

In fact , it might not be a bad idea to pull the guts out of it and make your own custom small safe for things like a bedside gun.

hmm....

I hesitate to put inexpensive electronics, and battery power, between me and my firearm.
