View Full Version : Would this stop you from buying a gun?

I bought a couple of "LACQUER-STIK" from Brownells and filled in the lettering on my Glock 27.

http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=7778/Product/LACQUER_STIK_reg_

This Glock already has heavy holster wear and I didn't pay much for it so I used it as my test subject.
I think it looks good (better than the pictures show). I also did everything on the other side.

My question is:
Would something like this stop you from buying a certain used gun?
Do you think it decreases the resale value of a gun?

no cuz a sharpie would reverse that in a second if i didn't like it.

Yes and no.

Yes it would stop me because I'd start wondering what other dumb thing the person did to the gun. Maybe nothing...maybe the internals are all super tacticool aftermarket stuff. Not worth the drive to find out.

No it would not stop me because at the end of the day I don't give a damn what the gun looks like, and if I know it's otherwise untouched, and the price is right I'll buy it.

I actually think it looks good and I don't care for Glocks(just don't fit my hand well). In a world of identical guns personalization stands out, just don't expect alot if you try to sell it.

The Glock 27 in the picture is well used and I carry it about 90% of the time. When I bought it I only paid $270 for it. Unlike most of my other guns this one NEVER sits in the safe.

This is the only gun I have had that I don't care what happens to it cosmetically so I am not worried about resale value.

I just wanted to see what you guys thought about the color fill before I went wild with my new "crayons"

BTW: I bought the "LACQUER-STIK" red and white, to color the selector positions on the 2 MGO Mega lowers I bought. I have done one of them and I like the way it looks. I am trying to decide if I want to color the rest of the engraving on the lower.

I'm with dmo.
You can't do much to make a Glock any uglier.

I personally like the looks of glocks... but that is just me. The only guns that are really ugly to me are Hi Points.

I also think it makes the gun look nicer and I also don't like Glocks very much. It wouldn't make me pay more for it - mostly because I know it's easy and cheap to do.

I would never think that it would sell for more after having the letters filled in.
The question is would it be worth less.

I am also not just talking about glocks, I am talking about any gun in general.

The coloring wouldn't matter to me but tha fact that it is a Glock would.
No Sale.

I think it ruins the gun, but I'll be generous and give you $50 for it anyway.

LOL. I voted "I think it looks fine and would not factor it into my decision."

I did that to mine but I used white crayon, when I get sick of it I'll just pop it out. I don't think it will matter much if you try to sell it.

My carry guns are either in a holster or in the safe. Making them look pretty serves no purpose.

While I'm not sure if you are an Idiot or not (I don't think we've ever met to allow me to form an informed conclusion). I would be worried about what else may have been done to the gun.

I do like to find original guns when looking, less chance of some other botched job on the gun.

The lettering would make it easier to determine exactly which glock it was in dim light (trying to figure out exactly what glocks people had at Top Gun shoot was difficult sometimes).

For the record, Old wheel guns look great, most other are fine looking guns, and I would agree about highpoints.

Also those XDs look weird/ugly/awkward/wrong, something IMHO:? . The did shoot fine when I tried one though.

Na, coloring the slide is a personal thing.. as DMO said wouldn't pay extra for it..

I see all kinds of things done to the XDm and XD's that look cool...but not a deal breaker of they were for sale..

For those that are undecided, try using a crayon and push firm to fill in the lettering then wipe the excess of with a cloth with some wd-40 on it. I've used this on my AR for the fire/safe lettering. Makes a nice touch on some guns and the lacquer sticks can be a permanent after you experiment with the crayon colors.

White crayon works great and isn't permanent might want to try that instead of something that is.

I really like the look of colored lettering.

With my XD, I used a hair dryer to heat the side, then I used light brown crayon; it turned out great. The following website will provide all the steps to color the lettering on your slide.
